Facebook will be adding a hug reaction to live alongside the ‘Like’ button. This new animated emoji hugging a heart will mean to show support to family and friends during this ongoing pandemic.

Presumably, the common ‘Love’ reaction seems to serve a similar purpose, but this one will show more care directly to the person you send the emoji to rather than showing that you care about the post.

Interestingly, Facebook is not using the exact emoji in Messenger. The one in the Facebook app will have a red heart, while the one on Messenger will have a purple-ish heart. To enable the emoji, you will first need to open the reactions by long-pressing on the post, then tap okay to enable the emoji.

The emoji is a welcomed addition by many users of Facebook, considering how much people are interacting via social media these days. Facebook’s hug reaction is expected to roll out this week.
