ASUS Republic of Gamers launches the ROG Cetra Open Wireless earbuds with open-ear design, dual-mode connectivity, and low-latency gaming audio.
ASUS’s gaming-focused brand, Republic of Gamers, has unveiled the ROG Cetra Open Wireless earbuds, expanding its audio lineup with an open-ear design that prioritises situational awareness alongside immersive sound. The new earbuds are positioned for gaming, music, and active use, targeting users who want a single device that can adapt across different environments.

The open-ear approach allows external sounds to remain audible while audio plays, addressing safety and awareness concerns during outdoor activities such as running or commuting. At the same time, the earbuds are designed to deliver a spacious and engaging sound profile, reflecting Republic of Gamers’ focus on performance-oriented audio products. The announcement highlights versatility as a core theme, with the earbuds intended to transition easily between gaming sessions and everyday use.
Dual-mode connectivity and low-latency performance
The ROG Cetra Open Wireless supports dual-mode connectivity, giving users the option of standard Bluetooth or ultra-low-latency ROG SpeedNova 2.4GHz wireless technology. The latter is designed to maintain tight synchronisation between audio and visuals, an important requirement for gaming where sound cues influence reaction times and in-game awareness.
To support longer sessions, the earbuds include a USB-C 2.4GHz dongle that enables one-way passthrough charging. This allows a connected device to be charged while the earbuds remain in use, reducing the need to disconnect during extended gaming or work periods. The dongle also broadens compatibility across devices such as PCs, laptops, and other USB-C systems, while maintaining a stable wireless connection.
Battery performance is geared towards practical daily use. In Bluetooth mode, the earbuds offer up to 16 hours of continuous playback when onboard sound modes and RGB lighting are switched off and the microphone is muted. For short breaks, a 15-minute quick charge can deliver up to three hours of listening time, supporting users who need fast top-ups between activities.
Audio design and onboard sound modes
Audio output is handled by 14.2mm diaphragm drivers with a diamond-like carbon coating, a design choice intended to reduce distortion while preserving clarity and detail. The drivers are engineered to deliver crisp high frequencies, deep bass, and a wide soundstage, supporting both immersive gameplay and music playback despite the open-ear form factor.
The earbuds also feature onboard audio modes that can be activated directly, without relying on companion software. Phantom Bass is designed to enhance low-end perception, compensating for the naturally open sound profile, while Immersion Mode focuses on reducing ambient noise. These modes allow users to adjust the listening experience based on their surroundings, whether prioritising awareness outdoors or a more focused sound indoors.
By placing these features directly on the device, Republic of Gamers emphasises consistency across platforms. Users who switch between different devices can retain similar audio behaviour without depending on platform-specific software controls.
Comfort, durability and everyday usability
Designed for extended wear, the ROG Cetra Open Wireless uses ergonomic liquid silicone ear hooks to provide a secure and comfortable fit. A detachable reflective neck strap is included to add stability during movement and increase visibility during outdoor activities, reinforcing the earbuds’ suitability for active lifestyles.
Control is managed through physical buttons rather than touch-sensitive surfaces. This design aims to ensure reliable input during workouts or gaming sessions, including in wet conditions or when the user is sweating. Physical controls also reduce the risk of accidental commands, offering more predictable operation during movement.
Durability is supported by an IPX5 splash-resistance rating, allowing the earbuds to withstand sweat, rain, and everyday exposure. Combined with the open-ear structure, these features position the ROG Cetra Open Wireless as an all-purpose audio solution for users who want comfort, awareness, and low-latency performance in a single device.
