Ayaneo has officially unveiled the Pocket Micro 2, the second-generation version of its compact retro-inspired gaming handheld. The company had teased the handheld earlier this month but has now confirmed its full specifications and pricing. The Pocket Micro 2 will be available from US$269, with pre-orders opening in limited quantities. Demand has already exceeded initial supply, prompting the company to explore an additional production run.
Improved hardware delivers stronger gaming performance
The Pocket Micro 2 continues to feature the same 3.5-inch LCD found on its predecessor. The screen offers a resolution of 960 × 640 pixels, maintaining the sharp image quality and compact size that appealed to fans of the original model.
The most significant upgrade comes from the inclusion of a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, providing improved performance for retro gaming and Android-based titles. Alongside the processor upgrade, Ayaneo has increased the battery capacity to 3,950 mAh, enabling longer gaming sessions between charges.
The company has also refined several aspects of the handheld’s physical design. The directional pad has been enlarged, while the ABXY buttons are now slightly bigger for improved comfort during extended gameplay. Ayaneo has redesigned the shoulder buttons and introduced recessed dual TMR analogue sticks to improve handling while reducing the risk of stick drift over time.
In addition to retaining USB-C connectivity, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, the Pocket Micro 2 now includes a 3.5mm headphone jack. The addition reflects the device’s retro-gaming inspiration, allowing users to connect wired headphones without adapters.
Multiple storage options and launch pricing announced
Ayaneo will offer the Pocket Micro 2 in two storage and memory configurations. The entry-level version includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. During the early launch period, this model will be available for US$239, then increase to its standard retail price of US$269.
A higher-specification version will also be available for users seeking additional memory and storage capacity. This model features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It will launch at a promotional price of US$309, then move to its regular retail price of US$339 after the introductory offer ends.
The handheld will be available in three colours: black, white, and purple. Despite only recently opening for pre-orders, initial stock has already sold out through the company’s online store.
The rapid sell-out highlights growing interest in compact retro-inspired gaming devices, particularly those capable of running both classic emulators and modern Android games. Ayaneo has established a reputation for producing premium handheld gaming systems, and the Pocket Micro 2 continues that strategy by combining nostalgic design elements with updated internal hardware.
Strong early demand leads to possible additional production
Ayaneo initially made the Pocket Micro 2 available through a limited pre-order campaign on a first-come, first-served basis. Following the immediate sell-out, many potential buyers were left unable to secure a unit during the first sales window.
The company has acknowledged the strong customer response and confirmed that discussions are underway with manufacturing partners to assess whether production can be expanded. However, no additional release date or restock schedule has been confirmed.
In a message shared on its Discord community server, Ayaneo explained that it is currently evaluating whether another manufacturing run would be commercially viable.
“We’re currently discussing with our suppliers to see if additional production can be arranged.”
The company added that demand would play a key role in determining whether more units can be produced.
“We’ll emulate the level of demand and determine whether it can meet the minimum order quantity requirements for another production run,” Ayaneo said on Discord. “We can’t promise that we’ll be able to make it happen, but we’ll do our best to explore every possibility.”
While prospective buyers may have to wait for further updates, the early response suggests that interest in premium retro handheld gaming devices remains strong. If Ayaneo proceeds with another production run, the Pocket Micro 2 is likely to attract continued attention from gamers seeking a compact handheld that combines modern performance with the styling of classic portable consoles.
