Canon launches the EOS R5 Mark II

Canon's new EOS R5 Mark II, set for release in August 2024, elevates photography and videography with 8K video, sophisticated autofocus, and sturdy construction.

Canon Singapore has announced the release of the EOS R5 Mark II, a revolutionary full-frame mirrorless camera that enhances the capabilities of its predecessor, the EOS R5. The new model features a 45-megapixel back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor and a novel image processing system known as the Accelerated Capture system. These innovations facilitate faster data processing and significantly improve autofocus performance, propelling Canon’s “5 series” into the future.

David Yeo, Senior Marketing Manager of Consumer Business at Canon Singapore, remarked, “For content creators who dare to dream the impossible, we have the perfect tool for them, the EOS R5 Mark II. With this camera, they now possess the ability to turn their imagination into reality. The EOS R5 Mark II, with its new upgrades and functions, is truly for the creative visionaries of tomorrow.”

Advanced autofocus and video capabilities

The EOS R5 Mark II comes equipped with the Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system, which enhances subject tracking and detection through advanced deep learning algorithms. This feature is especially useful in scenarios where subjects are in motion or partially obscured.

The introduction of Eye Control AF in the “5 series” allows users to change the focus point simply by looking at a new subject, improving responsiveness and accuracy. Additionally, the camera’s Action Priority AF mode is tailored to capture fast-moving sports action by automatically adjusting the focus to dynamic subjects.

In the realm of video, the EOS R5 Mark II supports 8K DCI 60p RAW internal video recording and introduces a 4K DCI 60p SRAW mode, enabling high-quality video production while efficiently managing data demands. Filmmakers can also benefit from the simultaneous recording of proxy files, streamlining the editing process.

Professional-grade features and durable design

The EOS R5 Mark II is the first EOS camera to offer 10-bit Canon Log 2, which provides more vibrant colour reproduction and an extended dynamic range for enhanced post-production capabilities. It seamlessly integrates with the Cinema EOS ecosystem, employing similar file systems and providing tools like waveform monitors to aid precise exposure adjustments during multi-camera shoots.

Designed for resilience, the EOS R5 Mark II features robust weather sealing comparable to its predecessor, ensuring reliability in challenging shooting conditions. The camera’s electronic viewfinder is brighter and offers enhanced clarity, which is crucial in variable weather. The updated 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer further aids in capturing sharp images under less stable conditions.

The EOS R5 Mark II will be available through Canon-authorised dealers at the end of August 2024.
