Chuwi has introduced a compact workstation designed to bring high-end AI processing and large language model capabilities to the desktop. The UniBox AI495 Pro was unveiled at IFA Berlin 2026, combining AMD’s latest Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor with a large pool of unified memory in a small chassis.
The machine targets users who want to run demanding AI workloads locally rather than relying entirely on cloud services. With up to 192GB of unified memory and a substantial portion available for graphics processing, the system is designed to handle AI models that would normally require considerably more powerful desktop hardware.
High memory capacity targets local AI workloads
The UniBox AI495 Pro’s most notable feature is its 192GB of LPDDR5x-8533 unified memory, which provides memory bandwidth of up to 273GB/s. Chuwi says up to 160GB of the available memory can be assigned as VRAM, giving the integrated Radeon graphics substantially more resources for demanding workloads.
That configuration is particularly relevant for users working with large AI models. According to Chuwi, the system can run models with as many as 300 billion parameters when using 4-bit quantisation. This lets AI processing run locally on the workstation, reducing the need to send prompts and data to remote cloud servers.
The processor at the centre of the system is AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495, based on the Zen 5 architecture. It features 16 CPU cores and 32 threads, with boost speeds reaching up to 5.2GHz. The processor is paired with a 40-core Radeon 8065S GPU, which Chuwi says can deliver better 1080p gaming performance than an Nvidia RTX 4060 in some workloads.
AI processing is supported by up to 131 TOPS of combined compute performance. The system’s XDNA 2 neural processing unit contributes up to 55 TOPS, meeting the performance requirements for Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC platform. The combination is intended to provide dedicated acceleration for AI applications alongside traditional CPU and GPU workloads.
A powerful workstation in a small chassis
Despite its hardware, the UniBox AI495 Pro has a relatively small footprint. The system measures 209.6 x 209.6 x 67mm and has a volume of approximately 2.9 litres. That makes it small enough to fit comfortably on a desk while still offering specifications more commonly associated with larger workstations.
A broad selection of connectivity and expansion options supports the compact design. Chuwi has included a 2TB SSD as standard, while three M.2 PCIe x4 slots provide additional storage expansion. The workstation also has two 10Gbps Ethernet ports, an OCuLink connection and two USB4 ports supporting speeds of up to 40Gbps.
The amount of memory packed into such a small enclosure is one of the system’s main selling points. Although other manufacturers have already explored compact AI workstations with very large memory configurations, Chuwi’s approach combines that capacity with the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 in a chassis under three litres.
For professionals and enthusiasts running AI models locally, the hardware could provide an alternative to building a much larger desktop system. Local processing can also help with workloads involving sensitive information, where keeping data on the machine may be preferable to sending it to an external cloud service.
UniBox AI395 offers a lower-tier alternative
Chuwi also announced the UniBox AI395 alongside the Pro model. The standard version uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, based on the Strix Halo platform. It is positioned as a more accessible option for users who do not require the Pro model’s maximum memory capacity.
The UniBox AI395 supports up to 128GB of unified memory, with up to 96GB available for VRAM. Chuwi says the system can run local AI models with up to 235 billion parameters when using mixture-of-experts techniques and low-bit quantisation.
Both UniBox systems share several features, including Windows 11 Pro, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. They also use the same 240W power adapter, giving the two systems a similar overall approach despite their different processors and memory limits.
Chuwi has not yet revealed pricing or release dates for either the UniBox AI495 Pro or UniBox AI395. Final cost will be a key factor in how competitive the systems are against other compact AI workstations and conventional desktop PCs. Until pricing and availability are confirmed, the two machines remain particularly interesting for users looking for a compact way to run large AI models locally.
