Fujifilm has introduced the instax Link WIDE 2, expanding its portable range with a smartphone printer that creates collages from multiple images using a new Photo Mixer tool. The device will be available in Singapore from 29 September.
The printer uses Fujifilm’s WIDE format, utilising film that measures 86 mm by 108 mm. This format delivers twice the size of standard mini prints. Through the accompanying app, users can combine regular photographs, cutout subjects, text and stamps within a single physical print.
Photo Mixer builds collages from selected images
Photo Mixer generates several collage options from photographs selected by the user, providing multiple layout variations to consider. Once a preferred design is chosen, the app automatically adjusts the size, angle and placement of images, along with text positioning and font style. Users can also edit these suggested layouts before printing. Within the app, photographs can be resized or repositioned, while custom text and stamps can be added to customise the design.
The software also includes an image-analysis feature that automatically extracts people and objects from photographs. Once isolated, these cutouts can be incorporated into collages alongside other images. This capability allows several subjects or moments to be combined within one WIDE-format print.
The larger format provides substantially more room for group photographs and landscapes. Photo Mixer takes advantage of that additional space to bring several images from trips, events or other occasions into a single print.
More devices can print to the Link WIDE 2
Support for printing on the Link WIDE 2 extends well beyond smartphones to include tablets and PCs, as well as Fujifilm X Series digital cameras and the instax Pal 2. Printable content can include camera photographs, digital artwork and game screenshots stored on a computer. In addition, compatible cameras can use Direct Print to send images directly to the printer.
Fujifilm has also increased Bluetooth communication speed compared with the original instax Link WIDE. According to the company, this upgrade noticeably reduces overall image transfer time.
Google Pixel devices support Google Fast Pair Service during initial setup to streamline hardware connection. When the printer is switched on, setup notifications for the printer and its dedicated app appear on the smartphone, allowing users to complete pairing through on-screen instructions. Google Fast Pair requires Location History to be enabled and is not compatible with iOS. Fujifilm’s dedicated instax app is available free of charge for both Android and iOS devices.
Two colour options use a two-tone design
Fujifilm has redesigned the Link WIDE 2 with contrasting light and dark surfaces across the casing. The printer will be available in Duo Beige and Duo Blue, and can be positioned with either the lighter or darker side facing outwards.
An illuminated instax logo sits at the lower-right corner of the body. During printing, the emblem glows with a pale pink and blue gradient. The instax Link WIDE 2 will retail for S$279.
