OPPO leads AI innovation at IJCAI 2024

OPPO showcased its latest AI innovations at IJCAI 2024, unveiling a new zero-shot framework and discussing AI integration in smartphones.

OPPO showcased its groundbreaking AI capabilities at the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) 2024, held in Jeju Island, South Korea. This major academic AI event highlighted OPPO AI Centre’s cutting-edge research, further positioning the company as a leader in AI-enhanced mobile technology.

Revolutionary zero-shot framework unveiled

OPPO AI Centre made headlines with their research paper, “Zero-shot High-fidelity and Pose-controllable Character Animation,” which focuses on advancing the Image-to-Video (I2V) conversion technology. The new framework, known as PoseAnimate, addresses key challenges such as inconsistent character appearances and poor detail retention in video animations. PoseAnimate operates through three innovative components:

  • Pose-Aware Control Module (PACM): This module integrates pose signals with text embeddings to maintain content consistency and precise movement alignment.
  • Dual Consistency Attention Module (DCAM): It ensures the temporal consistency of characters and backgrounds, preserving identity and details across frames.
  • Mask-Guided Decoupling Module (MGDM): This module enhances video fidelity by separating characters from backgrounds effectively.

Additionally, OPPO introduced the Pose Alignment Transition Algorithm (PATA) to refine the alignment and smoothness of character transitions in animations. Test results have shown that PoseAnimate significantly outperforms traditional training methods in maintaining consistency and detail accuracy.

AI integration in smartphones: A new frontier

During IJCAI 2024, Dr. Yang Zhenyu from OPPO AI Centre presented “Generative AI for Smartphone: Challenges, Opportunities, and Practices of OPPO,” sharing insights on integrating AI in smartphone technologies with industry partners and academia. The talk highlighted OPPO’s efforts in pushing the boundaries of AI applications in mobile devices.

OPPO’s latest AI-enabled smartphones, the Find X7 series and the Reno12 series, exemplify the company’s expertise in mobile AI. These models are part of OPPO’s strategy to democratise AI technology for its users, aiming to equip about 50 million devices with AI features by the end of the year.

The company’s commitment to AI isn’t limited to hardware improvements; it’s about revolutionising the user experience. OPPO’s collaborations with major tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and MediaTek are central to its strategy of employing hybrid AI technologies, combining on-device and cloud-based solutions. By actively participating in prominent AI conferences and engaging with the academic community, OPPO continues to lead and shape the future of the AI smartphone industry.

Looking forward, OPPO remains dedicated to user-centric innovation, continually exploring new AI applications to enhance the mobile experience for users worldwide.
