Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 platform to power next-gen mobile experiences

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 brings faster AI, gaming, and multimedia features to mid-range smartphones, with HONOR and vivo onboard.

Qualcomm Technologies has introduced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Mobile Platform, the latest addition to its 7-series line-up. Designed to offer advanced multimedia features and improved overall performance, the new platform aims to bring high-end capabilities to a wider range of consumers.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 delivers a significant upgrade in processing power, offering a 27% improvement in CPU performance and 30% faster GPU graphics rendering compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. AI performance sees the most notable leap, with a 65% boost. These gains are expected to support new experiences in mobile photography, on-device generative AI, and immersive gaming.

Stronger AI and gaming features for mainstream devices

The platform brings selected features from Qualcomm’s Elite Gaming offering, enabling smoother gameplay and more dynamic visuals for mobile gamers. It also supports advanced on-device AI workloads, including generative AI assistants and large language models (LLMs), as well as stable diffusion image generation directly on the device.

Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets at Qualcomm Technologies, said, “With the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Mobile Platform, we are delivering new levels of possibilities in the 7-series with AI-driven experiences built directly into the hardware, making it easier than ever for users to capture, create, and share.”

The chipset also includes Snapdragon Sound support and introduces Qualcomm’s XPAN (Expanded Personal Area Network) technology to the 7-series for the first time, previously available only in flagship models. These additions aim to bring more premium audio and connectivity capabilities to mid-range smartphones.

HONOR and vivo among the first to adopt

Leading smartphone manufacturers HONOR and vivo are among the first to confirm their plans to launch devices powered by the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 platform. The first wave of devices is expected to be announced later this month.

Fei Fang, President of Products at HONOR, said, “At HONOR, we are excited to collaborate closely with Qualcomm Technologies and integrate the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 mobile platform into our upcoming commercial device. This powerful platform will enable us to deliver unparalleled performance and cutting-edge features, elevating our user’s mobile experiences in their daily lives.”

vivo also confirmed its plans, with Weifeng Ouyang, Vice President of Product, stating, “vivo and Qualcomm Technologies have been collaborating for years to deliver exceptional experiences for our users. Today, we are thrilled to announce that our upcoming smartphone will be powered by the next-generation Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 mobile platform, designed to immerse users in innovative and efficient mobile experiences.”

Expanding access to premium features

With the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, Qualcomm continues its strategy of bringing advanced capabilities previously reserved for flagship smartphones to a broader audience. By delivering robust AI, gaming, and multimedia performance in the mid-tier segment, the company aims to meet growing consumer demand for feature-rich smartphones at more accessible prices.
