Singapore EXPO to track carbon emissions for MICE events with ESGpedia

Singapore EXPO partners with ESGpedia to calculate event carbon emissions and boost sustainability across its MICE operations and supply chain.

Singapore EXPO will begin calculating the carbon emissions of its Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) events following a new partnership between its managing operator Constellar and ESG data technology company ESGpedia. The collaboration aims to strengthen sustainability efforts at Singapore’s largest purpose-built MICE venue by integrating digital carbon accounting and reporting systems.

The partnership will see Constellar use ESGpedia’s digital solutions to measure and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated by events, as well as support sustainable supply chain practices. These efforts are designed to accelerate the venue’s decarbonisation plans and align with Singapore’s national targets under the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and the goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

Singapore EXPO, known as Asia’s most sustainable MICE venue powered by onsite renewable energy, will also offer its suppliers—many of which are small and medium-sized enterprises—access to ESGpedia’s tools. This will help them begin their own carbon accounting and sustainability reporting, supporting the venue’s push for a greener supply chain.

Aligning with Singapore’s green targets

The move comes after the launch of the MICE Sustainability Roadmap by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS) in 2023. The roadmap requires the industry to track waste and carbon emissions to reduce environmental impact and maintain global competitiveness.

“With rising sustainability regulations and expectations for emission reduction, the adoption of ESGpedia for event carbon calculation and supplier enablement will help Constellar advance its sustainability commitment,” the company said.

Constellar’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Chua Wee Phong, described the initiative as a step towards setting world-class sustainability standards in the MICE sector. “As managing operators of Asia’s most sustainable MICE venue powered by renewable energy, Singapore EXPO, Constellar is proud to lead the industry’s sustainability transformation – and we’re not stopping here. We continue to push boundaries by setting world-class benchmarks in sustainable operations and embracing cutting-edge technologies that empower event organisers to deliver exceptional tradeshows and exhibitions,” he said.

Benjamin Soh, Founder and Managing Director of ESGpedia, added: “We are delighted to be supporting Constellar in its sustainability efforts through ESGpedia’s carbon accounting and sustainability reporting solutions. With Constellar being a definitive leader in the MICE industry and region, we are positive that through accelerating Constellar’s sustainability initiatives, we are able to jointly move the needle in strengthening Singapore’s position as a leading sustainable urban destination in the region.”

Data-driven insights for decarbonisation

Using ESGpedia’s fully digitalised GHG calculation system, Constellar can measure emissions across all aspects of an event. This includes attendee travel and accommodation, venue operations, food and beverage supply chains, and waste disposal. The resulting data will provide insights for shaping long-term decarbonisation strategies and improving the efficiency of future MICE events.

Organisers will also be able to generate event-specific carbon emissions reports aligned with international frameworks, making sustainability performance easier to communicate transparently.

Looking ahead, Constellar and ESGpedia plan to deepen their collaboration to drive a low-carbon MICE industry in Singapore and reinforce the city’s status as one of Asia Pacific’s most sustainable destinations for large-scale events.
