Spotify restores services after two outages disrupt music streaming
Spotify restored services after two outages disrupted streaming, login, search and account access for users worldwide.
Spotify experienced two significant service outages on 28 July, leaving many users unable to access music, search for content or manage their accounts. The disruptions affected both the company’s website and mobile applications, with reports of problems appearing at different times throughout the day.

The outages prevented users from streaming music, logging into their accounts, searching Spotify’s catalogue and accessing account settings. While the first disruption was resolved within around an hour, a second and more widespread incident later affected the platform before normal service was restored.
Two disruptions affect users worldwide
The first outage began during the early hours of 28 July, prompting a surge in user reports across online outage tracking services. Spotify acknowledged the issue through its official Spotify Status account on X, confirming that it was investigating the problem before later announcing that the service had been restored.

Several hours later, users encountered another round of issues. At just after 3:00 pm Eastern Time on 28 July, the Spotify Status account posted: “We’re aware of some issues right now with our web page and are checking them out!” The company also directed users to its support and community pages for updates while engineers investigated the disruption.
The second outage affected a wide range of Spotify’s services. Many users reported that they could not play music, log into their accounts or use the search function to find songs, albums and podcasts. Others said they were unable to manage account settings through the website or mobile apps.
Reports of problems quickly spread across social media, where users shared screenshots of error messages and described difficulties accessing the streaming platform. The incident highlighted how heavily many people rely on Spotify for daily music listening and podcast streaming.
Spotify confirms services have been restored
After approximately three hours, Spotify announced that the second outage had been resolved. At around 6:00 pm Eastern Time, the Spotify Status account posted: “All clear now — thanks for your patience with this!” The message indicated that normal service had resumed across the platform.
As Spotify restored operations, reports submitted to outage monitoring service Downdetector steadily declined, suggesting that access was returning for most users. Customers were once again able to stream music, search the library and log into their accounts without widespread issues.
Although Spotify confirmed that services had returned to normal, the company did not immediately provide details about the cause of either outage. It also did not indicate whether the two disruptions were connected or the result of separate technical issues.
The company instead focused on keeping users informed through its official status updates, directing anyone still experiencing problems to its support resources and online community forums for further assistance.
Outages underline the importance of reliable streaming services
Streaming platforms have become an essential part of everyday entertainment, making even short disruptions noticeable for millions of users. Services such as Spotify depend on complex infrastructure to deliver uninterrupted access to music, podcasts and personalised recommendations across multiple devices.
When technical issues occur, companies often rely on status pages and social media channels to provide updates while engineers work to restore services. Quick communication can help reduce uncertainty, particularly during widespread outages that affect users in multiple regions.
The dual disruptions experienced by Spotify demonstrate how technical problems can temporarily affect a broad range of core features beyond music playback. Login systems, search functions and account management tools all experienced interruptions, preventing users from accessing the platform as expected.
By the end of the day, Spotify had restored normal operations, and reports of problems had fallen significantly. While the service resumed without further reported interruptions, the company has not yet publicly explained what caused the outages.
