Acer launches MacBook Neo rival with faster display, more memory and wider port selection
Acer’s new Go Air challenges the MacBook Neo with 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, a 120Hz display and Thunderbolt 4 ports.
Acer has introduced a new configuration of its Go Air laptop in China, giving budget-conscious buyers another alternative to Apple’s MacBook Neo. The new model combines a higher refresh-rate display, more memory and faster connectivity, while keeping a lightweight design aimed at everyday users.

The Go Air configuration is powered by Intel’s recently released Core 5 320 processor and comes with 12GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 512GB SSD. Acer has priced the machine at CNY 5,499, equivalent to about US$815 based on current conversion rates. The company has not yet confirmed whether this particular configuration will be sold internationally.
The new laptop appears closely related to the Acer Swift 14 configuration shown at Computex 2026. If it reaches other markets, it could become a notable competitor to Apple’s entry-level MacBook, particularly for buyers who value connectivity and display smoothness.
Acer focuses on display and connectivity
The Go Air features a 14-inch IPS screen with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also uses DC dimming, which can help reduce flickering at lower brightness levels. Together, these features give Acer’s laptop an advantage in screen size and refresh rate over Apple’s MacBook Neo, although Apple’s machine offers a significantly sharper display.
The MacBook Neo has a 13-inch IPS panel with a 2408 x 1506 resolution and a rated brightness of 500 nits. Its higher pixel density should provide sharper text and images, while the Go Air’s 120Hz refresh rate can make scrolling and animations appear smoother. The faster refresh rate could also benefit users who occasionally play games that can take advantage of it.
Connectivity is another area where Acer has taken a different approach. The Go Air includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports alongside a USB-A port, giving users access to both modern high-speed connections and the older USB standard without requiring an adapter.
Apple’s MacBook Neo also has two USB-C ports, but their capabilities are more limited. One supports USB 3 speeds of up to 10Gbps and DisplayPort, while the other is restricted to USB 2 speeds of up to 480Mbps. Apple officially supports a single external display at up to 4K resolution and 60Hz.
For people who regularly connect storage drives, displays, accessories or other peripherals, Acer’s port selection could therefore make the Go Air a more flexible option.
The 512GB models make the comparison closer
Price becomes a more interesting part of the comparison when storage capacity is taken into account. Apple’s MacBook Neo starts at US$699 with 8GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage. Increasing the storage to 512GB raises the price to US$799, while the memory remains at 8GB.
Acer’s new Chinese configuration costs roughly US$815 after currency conversion but provides 12GB of LPDDR5 memory and 512GB of storage. The difference of around US$16 is small on paper. However, the comparison is not a direct retail match because taxes, regional pricing and currency conversion can affect the final price in different markets.
The Go Air also has a compact design. Acer lists the machine at 1.19kg, or around 2.62lb, with a thickness of 12.99mm. The MacBook Neo weighs 2.7lb and measures 12.7mm thick. That leaves only a small difference between the two machines for users who prioritise portability.
Battery capacity also favours Acer on paper. The Go Air has a 70Wh battery, and Acer claims it can provide up to 19 hours of use. The laptop supports 100W USB-C charging and can reportedly reach 50% capacity in 30 minutes.
Apple equips the MacBook Neo with a smaller 36.5Wh battery and rates it for up to 16 hours of video streaming or 11 hours of wireless web use. However, the manufacturers use different testing methods, so the advertised figures should not be interpreted as a definitive battery-life comparison until both machines have been tested under similar conditions.
Intel Core 5 320 targets everyday computing
The processor inside the new Go Air is Intel’s Core 5 320, a six-core chip from the company’s Wildcat Lake family. It combines two performance cores with four low-power efficiency cores and can reach a maximum turbo frequency of 4.6GHz.
The processor also includes integrated graphics and a neural processing unit capable of up to 16 trillion operations per second. That makes it suitable for common laptop workloads such as web browsing, office applications, video calls, media consumption and general productivity.
The Core 5 320 is not positioned as Intel’s highest-performance mobile processor, but Acer appears to be targeting the same general market segment as Apple’s MacBook Neo. Both machines are designed primarily around efficient everyday computing rather than demanding professional workloads.
The Go Air’s combination of 12GB of memory, 512GB of storage, Thunderbolt 4 connectivity and a 120Hz display could make it an attractive alternative for Windows users who want more flexibility from an affordable laptop. Apple’s MacBook Neo retains advantages in display resolution and the wider software and hardware ecosystem surrounding macOS.
For now, the biggest unanswered question is availability. Acer has only announced this particular Go Air configuration for China, and there is no confirmed international launch date. If Acer brings the model to other markets at a similar price, it could offer Windows buyers a compelling alternative to Apple’s entry-level laptop.
