Ayaneo unveils Konkr Pocket Advance, a modern tribute to the Game Boy Advance
Ayaneo unveils the Konkr Pocket Advance, a retro-inspired handheld with modern features, but pricing and release details remain unknown.
More than 25 years after the Game Boy Advance debuted in the United States, Ayaneo has introduced a modern handheld inspired by Nintendo’s iconic console. During its latest product showcase, the company revealed the Konkr Pocket Advance. This new gaming device combines the familiar design of the original Game Boy Advance with updated hardware and modern connectivity features.

The announcement comes only weeks after the 25th anniversary of the Game Boy Advance’s US launch. While Nintendo has not announced a successor to its classic handheld, Ayaneo aims to appeal to retro gaming enthusiasts with a device that closely resembles the original while offering features expected of today’s portable gaming systems.
A familiar design with modern upgrades
The Konkr Pocket Advance retains the horizontal layout that made the original Game Boy Advance instantly recognisable. However, the new handheld replaces the older display technology with a 3.5-inch LCD panel featuring a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. Although the screen is sharper than the original, it preserves the same 3:2 aspect ratio to maintain the classic gaming experience.
Ayaneo has also expanded the control layout beyond the original design. Alongside the standard ABXY buttons, the handheld includes dedicated menu controls and additional shoulder buttons, providing greater compatibility with modern games and emulators. These additions allow the device to support a wider range of gaming experiences while keeping the familiar look of Nintendo’s classic console.
The company has also equipped the handheld with several contemporary features. The Konkr Pocket Advance includes a USB-C port for charging and data transfer, a microSD card slot for expandable storage, and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It also retains a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a physical volume adjustment wheel, details that reinforce its retro-inspired design while improving everyday usability.
Colour choices celebrate the original handheld
Ayaneo has introduced the Konkr Pocket Advance in two colour options that pay tribute to well-known Game Boy Advance editions. One version features a navy blue finish that closely resembles the classic Indigo model. At the same time, the second comes in a coral-orange shade inspired by the popular Spice Orange variant released in select markets.
The colour choices reflect the company’s intention to recreate the appearance and feel of the early 2000s handheld while delivering updated hardware. By blending nostalgic styling with current technology, Ayaneo is targeting players who grew up with the original system as well as younger audiences interested in retro gaming.
The overall design remains faithful to the proportions and appearance of the original console. Still, the inclusion of modern ports and wireless capabilities positions the Konkr Pocket Advance as a practical handheld for contemporary gaming. The combination of classic aesthetics and updated specifications continues a growing trend among manufacturers producing retro-inspired gaming devices.
Release details remain unknown
Despite unveiling the hardware, Ayaneo has not confirmed when the Konkr Pocket Advance will become available or how much it will cost. The absence of pricing and launch information means prospective buyers will have to wait for further announcements before making purchasing decisions.
The company has previously released several niche handheld gaming devices, many of which have been produced in relatively small quantities. One recent example was the Pocket Micro 2, which sold out within minutes because of its limited production run. That experience has led to speculation that the Konkr Pocket Advance could also face high demand if initial stock levels are restricted.
Many enthusiasts are hoping Ayaneo will manufacture the new handheld in greater numbers to avoid the shortages seen with earlier releases. A larger production run would allow more retro gaming fans to purchase the device without competing for limited stock shortly after launch.
For now, the Konkr Pocket Advance stands as Ayaneo’s latest attempt to combine nostalgia with modern hardware. While questions remain over its price and availability, its updated display, expanded controls and contemporary connectivity features suggest it could become an attractive option for players looking to revisit the Game Boy Advance experience on modern hardware.
