Casio has unveiled the MR-G MRG-B5000HT, a new addition to its premium MR-G series, elevating the iconic square-faced G-Shock into a collector’s masterpiece. Limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, the watch will debut in Singapore with an exclusive pre-launch event at the G-Shock ION Store on 29 August. Priced at S$9,888 (approximately US$7,300), the MRG-B5000HT combines traditional Japanese artistry with the advanced engineering for which the G-Shock brand is known.
The highlight of this timepiece is the use of tsuiki, a traditional Japanese hammering technique dating back centuries. Each bezel and bracelet is painstakingly hand-shaped by artisan Kazuya Watanabe, ensuring that no two pieces are identical. While Casio has experimented with tsuiki finishes in past G-Shock models, this marks one of the most refined applications of the technique, giving a watch famed for its toughness a unique and human touch.
Premium materials and meticulous design
The MRG-B5000HT is constructed from DAT55G titanium alloy, which Casio describes as stronger and more lustrous than standard titanium. Its exterior is finished in oborogin, a silver-grey coating accented with copper tones, designed to reflect the understated beauty of traditional Japanese metalwork.
The meticulous craftsmanship reinforces Casio’s vision of the MR-G line as a sophisticated, high-end branch of the G-Shock family. The hand-hammered finish creates a striking contrast with the watch’s reputation for rugged durability, presenting it as both a precision instrument and a wearable work of art.
Expanding the MR-G collection
Over recent years, Casio has significantly expanded its MR-G series with collaborations, heritage-inspired remakes, and experiments with advanced materials. The MRG-B5000HT continues this trend, further establishing MR-G watches as premium collector’s items rather than casual streetwear accessories.
With its fusion of artistry, craftsmanship, and durability, the MR-G MRG-B5000HT is positioned as a statement piece for enthusiasts willing to invest in Casio’s vision of luxury horology. However, its limited production means availability will be highly restricted, and demand among collectors is expected to be strong.
