Dune: Awakening confirms cross-play for post-launch console update
Dune: Awakening arrives on PS5 and XBOX with upscaled 4K visuals, full single-player mode, post-launch cross-play, and the film-inspired Filmic Archive DLC.
Funcom has confirmed that Dune: Awakening will introduce cross-play between PC and console players following its arrival on PlayStation 5 and XBOX on 22 September. Alongside this announcement, the studio showcased fresh PlayStation 5 gameplay footage and detailed the upcoming Filmic Archive DLC scheduled to release on the same day.
The open-world survival title originally debuted on PC in June 2025. With its upcoming console launch, the game will introduce a complete single-player mode, bring the overarching storyline to its conclusion, and incorporate all the content additions and technical enhancements introduced across its initial year on PC. Console players will also gain expanded customisation options, which include the ability to tailor gameplay difficulty levels.
PlayStation 5 footage details console performance
Ahead of the console debut, Funcom released seven minutes of gameplay captured directly on PlayStation 5 Pro to demonstrate performance across hardware configurations. Both the base PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Pro will support Performance Mode at 60 frames per second, with the standard console utilising dynamic resolution, while Quality Mode targets 30 frames per second on both machines. Regardless of the chosen visual preset, the game renders at upscaled 4K resolution across both PlayStation 5 models.
Although cross-play between PC and console platforms will arrive in a subsequent post-launch update rather than on day one, Funcom highlighted it as the most requested community feature following the console reveal. A definitive release date for this cross-platform functionality has not yet been established.
Dune: Awakening is also scheduled to join XBOX Game Pass on 22 September. Players who purchase the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition on either PlayStation or XBOX can begin playing five days earlier, starting on 17 September.
Filmic Archive DLC adds content inspired by the films
Launching on 22 September across all supported platforms for US$9.99, the Filmic Archive DLC introduces cosmetic and building pieces inspired by Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two. Key inclusions range from the Aegis of the Unwalked Path armour, drawn from Paul Atreides’ visions of Fremen holy warriors in the first film, to the Caladan Stormcoat worn by both Paul and Duke Leto. The add-on pack is completed by additional outfits from the films alongside a 73-piece base-building set styled after the Sardaukar.
Alongside the digital rollout, a physical boxed edition for PlayStation 5 will arrive in selected markets on 22 September. In Japan, publishing partner Spike Chunsoft will handle both the digital and retail release of Dune: Awakening on 29 October.
