Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition launches on 1 October with new story expansion
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition launches on 1 October with a new story expansion, roguelike mode and additional features.
Ghost of Yōtei is getting a substantial new edition on PlayStation 5, with Sucker Punch Productions announcing the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition for 1 October. The expanded release arrives roughly one year after the original game launched and will add a new story chapter, a new combat mode, and other features to the samurai action-adventure.
Table Of Content
The Complete Edition will include the original Ghost of Yōtei experience, along with its additional content. It will also feature Ghost of Yōtei Legends, the game’s online co-operative mode, giving new players access to the full package in a single release. The digital edition is already available for purchase in some markets, while the physical version is scheduled for 1 October.
Echoes of Sekigahara expands Atsu’s story
The centrepiece of the new release is Echoes of Sekigahara, a narrative expansion that explores protagonist Atsu’s history through events set across different periods of her life. The story will move between the present and flashbacks, including Atsu’s experiences during the Battle of Sekigahara, offering additional context about the character and her past.
The expansion will also take players to a previously unseen area within Ezo. The new location was once occupied by the Snake and his gang, known as the Vipers. Alongside the new story content, players can expect additional enemies, heavy weapons, armour sets and dyes. The expansion is designed to build on the original game’s combat and exploration systems rather than simply offering another short side activity.
Sucker Punch has not positioned Echoes of Sekigahara as a separate game, but as a significant addition to the existing Ghost of Yōtei campaign. The new material should therefore appeal to players who enjoyed Atsu’s original journey and want to learn more about her life before the main story.
Most Wanted adds a roguelike-inspired challenge
The other major addition is Most Wanted, a new single-player combat survival mode that introduces a different structure to Ghost of Yōtei. Sucker Punch describes the mode as “our spin on a roguelike”, with players taking on bounties, defeating groups of enemies and earning combat perks as they progress.
The mode is intended to give the game’s combat a more repeatable format. Rather than following the traditional campaign structure, players will be able to take on combat challenges and build up their capabilities during each run. The mode will feature Atsu alongside other characters, with different weapons and combat approaches adding further variety.
Most Wanted will be released alongside Echoes of Sekigahara on 1 October. The Complete Edition will therefore provide both additional story content for players seeking more of Atsu’s narrative and a separate combat-focused experience for those who want to spend more time testing the game’s combat mechanics.
Existing owners can upgrade for US$15
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition will cost US$70, matching the original game’s launch price. The package includes the main campaign, the new Echoes of Sekigahara expansion, Most Wanted and Ghost of Yōtei Legends. For players who already own the base game, the upgrade will cost US$15, providing a lower-cost route to the new paid content.
Players who decide not to purchase the upgrade will still receive several additions through a free update. The 1 October update will introduce a new Beauty of Yōtei mode, which provides a screensaver-style view of the game’s environments, as well as new Photo Mode features. The update will also bring quality-of-life improvements and a new high-contrast accessibility option, allowing the broader player base to benefit from some of the Complete Edition’s enhancements without paying for the expansion.
Sony-owned Sucker Punch Productions developed Ghost of Yōtei as a standalone follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima. The third-person action game received strong reviews upon its original release, and the Complete Edition offers the studio an opportunity to expand the experience with additional narrative and gameplay features. For existing players, the US$15 upgrade provides access to the two major new modes, while newcomers can purchase the complete package when the physical edition arrives on 1 October.
