Google Cloud has officially launched the Singapore Engineering Center, establishing its flagship product development hub for Southeast Asia. Operating from this new base, engineers will collaborate directly with commercial organisations to build cloud and AI systems intended for deployment across Singapore and broader international markets.
The facility gathers specialists across AI, infrastructure, data, computing, machine learning, networking, storage and customer support under one roof. By co-locating alongside Southeast Asia’s first Google DeepMind research lab, the centre links foundational AI research directly to engineering teams tasked with building robust production systems for enterprise customers. This physical proximity allows technical staff to translate advanced laboratory findings into scalable enterprise software.
Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State at Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information, attended to officiate the launch. He opened the facility alongside Pee Beng Kong, Executive Vice President at the Singapore Economic Development Board.
Engineers will work directly with enterprise customers
Operating primarily as a product development facility, the Singapore Engineering Center embeds Google Cloud engineers directly alongside the technical teams of client organisations during the creation process. This collaborative arrangement ensures that emerging products are rigorously tested and refined against commercial requirements before they enter full production.
Its technical remit centres on secure data architectures and cloud infrastructure tailored for low-latency, mission-critical enterprise operations and autonomous AI agent workloads. In parallel, teams will integrate foundational models and agent technologies directly into Google Cloud products. They are also tasked with building secure application programming interfaces, along with tools designed to coordinate AI agents across hybrid and multicloud environments.
Open-source development forms another vital strand of the centre’s mission. Engineers stationed at the site will actively contribute code back to the wider software ecosystem.
Google Cloud first announced plans for the facility at Google for Singapore in February 2026. Backed by the Singapore Economic Development Board, the project introduces new core engineering and Forward Deployed Engineer roles to the local workforce.

Co-location with Google DeepMind deliberately ties exploratory research closer to commercial software creation. By sharing a working environment, researchers and cloud engineers can rapidly incorporate emerging AI capabilities into systems being designed alongside enterprise partners.
Grab and DBS are among early collaborators
Google Cloud highlighted its engagements with Grab and DBS as early demonstrations of how the centre operates alongside regional firms. These projects show how engineering staff will interact directly with industry partners to co-develop solutions.
Technical teams have already collaborated with Grab to stress-test real-time multilingual AI models under demanding conditions. In another early initiative, engineers worked with DBS to implement AI agents across financial workflows. Google Cloud plans to take the operational lessons drawn from both engagements and embed them into products that can eventually be deployed across its broader cloud portfolio.

This collaborative structure provides participating enterprises with direct access to Google Cloud engineers while systems are actively being developed. As a result, specific customer requirements and practical feedback can inform architecture and testing before products progress to wider commercial release.
Forward Deployed Engineers will support production deployments
To ensure technical work translates into long-term commercial use, Google Cloud is expanding its regional roster of Forward Deployed Engineers. These dedicated professionals will assist organisations in moving initial pilot projects into sustained operational deployment.
These engineers will build directly upon solutions developed at the Singapore Engineering Center. As client engagements mature, they will work on site with customer teams to handle systems integration and manage the technical scaling required to transition prototypes into live production environments.
The operational framework links three distinct facets of Google’s presence in Singapore into a unified pipeline. Google DeepMind leads foundational AI research, while teams at the Singapore Engineering Center translate those theoretical breakthroughs into functional cloud products. From there, Customer Engineering and Forward Deployed Engineer teams work directly with enterprise clients to implement and maintain the technology.
While products developed through the facility are geared towards addressing specific operational challenges encountered by Southeast Asian enterprises, their utility is not confined to the region. Systems refined in Singapore are deliberately engineered to support deployment across international markets as well.
