Insta360 unveils X5 camera with upgrades

Insta360's X5 camera boasts larger sensors, replaceable lenses, and AI enhancements, improving image quality and durability.

Insta360 has recently launched its newest 360° action camera, the X5. This new camera has several improvements over its predecessor, the X4, offering enhanced features for amateur and professional users. The X5 promises to deliver improved image quality, durability, and ease of use.

Enhanced Image Quality and Design

One of the major upgrades in the X5 is the inclusion of larger dual 1/1.28″ sensors. These sensors are designed to capture more light per pixel, resulting in better image quality, particularly in low-light conditions. This allows for clearer and more vibrant footage, even when filming in challenging environments.

Another key feature of the X5 is its new replaceable lens design. This design allows users to swap out lenses if they become damaged easily. The lenses are made from new, high-strength, scratch-resistant glass, enhancing their durability.

The X5 also features an industry-first triple AI chip, consisting of a 5nm AI chip and two Pro imaging chips. This system is designed to reduce noise and improve image clarity in all shooting conditions. The additional 140% computing power ensures that the footage is clearer, brighter, and more vivid.

New Features and Improvements

The X5 also includes a new dedicated mode for low-light recording called PureVideo. This mode uses advanced AI noise reduction and dynamic range optimisation to produce clear and vibrant videos, even in low-light environments. The Active HDR recording has also been enhanced, supporting 5.7K at up to 60fps.

The InstaFrame mode allows users to capture both a flat video and a 360° video simultaneously, which is useful for creating instantly shareable content.

Other improvements include a built-in wind guard and an improved audio algorithm, which helps to reduce wind noise and improve sound quality. The X5 also has a longer-lasting 2,400mAh battery, providing up to 185 minutes of recording time in 5.7K mode. The battery also charges faster, going from 0% to 80% in just 20 minutes. Additionally, the X5 is IP68 waterproof, allowing it to be submerged up to 15m, compared to the 10m depth rating of the X4.

Availability and Pricing

Alongside the new X5 camera, Insta360 has also updated its app. The new app features a sleeker user interface and new editing tools, including a one-tap Dewarp button to remove fisheye distortion and a one-tap export option.

The Insta360 X5 is now available at the Insta360 Official Store, Amazon, Lazada, Shopee, and authorised retailers. Prices start from S$769.

The Insta360 X5 camera offers a range of improvements over its predecessor, including better image quality, a replaceable lens design, and new AI features.
