LG introduces the ThinQ ON AI home hub, revolutionising smart home living

LG's new ThinQ ON AI home hub unveiled at IFA 2024 brings advanced connectivity, personalised comfort, and enhanced security to smart homes.

LG Electronics is set to transform smart home living with its latest innovation, the LG ThinQ ON AI home hub. Unveiled at IFA 2024 in Berlin, Germany, from 6 to 10 September 2024, this new hub is designed to be the core of a fully connected smart home ecosystem. The ThinQ ON integrates seamlessly with various appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, bringing together LG’s advanced “Affectionate Intelligence” to deliver personalised comfort, care, and convenience.

A central hub for a connected smart home

The LG ThinQ ON AI home hub is more than just a control centre; it’s the heart of a smart home. This hub connects effortlessly with various appliances and IoT devices, allowing users to create a personalised and AI-powered home environment. Powered by LG’s unique Affectionate Intelligence, the ThinQ ON adapts to individual usage patterns and broader trends, continuously enhancing the user experience. This AI-driven approach aligns with LG’s vision of a “Zero Labour Home,” where everyday tasks are automated and simplified.

Compact and stylish, the ThinQ ON features a cylindrical design in neutral tones, making it a subtle addition to any home décor. Equipped with an AI speaker, the device allows users to interact with LG’s AI voice assistant, providing a natural and conversational way to control their home environment. The ThinQ ON’s advanced functions are powered by LG’s high-performance AI chipset, which ensures scalability and future upgrades.

Customised smart home solutions

One of the standout features of the LG ThinQ ON is its ability to understand and respond to natural language. This allows users to control their smart home devices with simple voice commands, making interacting with technology as easy as talking to a friend or family member. The AI home hub also understands the context of conversations, enabling it to identify user preferences and tailor the operation of connected appliances and IoT devices accordingly.

The ThinQ ON monitors the entire smart home ecosystem, alerting users when tasks are complete or when issues arise, such as a finished washing machine cycle. Furthermore, it allows users to adjust nearly all appliance settings via voice commands and to set up routines that automate daily tasks, enhancing convenience and efficiency in the home.

Connectivity, expandability, and security

The LG ThinQ ON is Matter-certified and supports multiple connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Thread. This ensures a straightforward setup process and a seamless smart home experience. The hub is compatible with a broad range of LG products and an increasing number of devices from other manufacturers, allowing users to manage their entire smart home setup from one central location.

In July 2024, LG acquired Athom, a smart home platform company, in a strategic move to enhance the ThinQ ON’s connectivity. Athom’s Homey Pro smart hub can connect to over 50,000 devices, and its Homey App Store offers around 1,000 applications for integrating products from various global brands. LG plans to expand the ThinQ ON’s open platform further by continuously increasing the number of supported brands and devices.

To ensure security and privacy, the ThinQ ON employs LG Shield, a proprietary security system that encrypts user data and stores it securely. Data modifications are carried out in a controlled environment, preventing external tampering and ensuring users can enjoy the benefits of LG’s AI-driven solutions safely.

“An AI voice assistant and hub that serves as the centre of the smart home, ThinQ ON brings us significantly closer to realising our vision of the Zero Labour Home,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “LG aims to make the ‘AI Home Lifestyle’ accessible to everyone, and will continue to deliver customised comfort, care, and convenience through its Affectionate Intelligence solutions.”
