Moving accounting into AI-native workflows with Xero and Anthropic
Xero partners Anthropic to integrate Claude into its platform, enabling real-time financial automation and analysis across tools.
Xero has entered a multi-year partnership with Anthropic to integrate Claude into its accounting platform, while also bringing Xero’s financial data and tools into Claude.ai. The move enables small businesses and their advisors to access and act on financial data in real time across both environments.

The integration introduces a two-way workflow. Claude will operate within Xero to automate financial tasks, while Xero data will be accessible inside Claude.ai for analysis, planning, and execution. The companies position this as a shift from static reporting to continuous, action-oriented financial management.
Automation and real-time financial insight inside Xero
Within Xero, Claude will power automation across accounting, payroll, and payments. The system is designed to handle tasks such as analysing revenue and profit performance, monitoring cash flow, and identifying overdue invoices.
These capabilities are delivered through JAX, Xero’s AI system, which orchestrates tasks and recommends actions based on financial data. The intent is to reduce manual work, particularly around routine monitoring and reconciliation, and to surface insights that would otherwise require multiple reports.
Diya Jolly, Chief Product & Technology Officer at Xero, said small businesses often struggle to answer operational financial questions quickly, particularly when data is spread across systems. She added that the integration allows users to both analyse and act on financial data without switching tools.
Extending Xero data into Claude.ai
The partnership also enables Xero customers to use their financial data directly within Claude.ai. This includes combining internal financial data with external inputs such as market trends or business plans to assess different scenarios.
Users will be able to evaluate outcomes such as year-end positions and trigger actions directly from within Claude.ai. Over time, the system is expected to support end-to-end workflows, allowing users to initiate and complete financial tasks with minimal manual intervention.
Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, said the integration adds a reasoning layer to Xero’s existing platform, allowing users to move from interpreting data to receiving clear answers and recommended actions.
Data use and development implications
Both companies state that financial data shared between platforms will be used only within the context of a user’s session and will not be used to train AI models. This is positioned as a core requirement for handling sensitive financial information.
Beyond product integration, Xero will also adopt Anthropic’s tools internally. Its engineering teams will use Claude and Cowork to support product development, which could shorten development cycles and expand AI-driven features within the platform.
The combined capabilities are expected to be rolled out in the coming months.
