Samsung has introduced two USB4 portable solid-state drives (SSDs) in Singapore, positioning the P9 for professional content creation and the P7 for everyday storage and file transfers. Both models are listed in capacities of up to 8TB, while the flagship P9 delivers claimed sequential read speeds of up to 4,000MB/s.

The new P Series addresses storage requirements across video production, photography, gaming and everyday productivity. Within the range, Samsung has equipped the P9 with support for 12K direct recording, while the P7 focuses on compatibility with different devices for accessing, transferring and backing up content.

P9 targets professional video and photography workflows

Using USB4 connectivity, the P9 delivers sequential read speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 3,800MB/s, performance that Samsung says is approximately twice that of its previous-generation T9 portable SSD. These figures are based on Samsung’s internal testing using the cable supplied with the drive. Actual transfer performance may vary depending on the connected device, cable and system configuration, meaning the advertised maximum speeds may differ from those achieved during normal use.

The P9 supports 12K direct recording, allowing professional creators to record ultra-high-resolution footage directly to the drive. Samsung also identifies the storage and editing of large RAW image files and ultra-high-resolution video as intended uses, with the drive’s transfer speeds and capacity designed to accommodate demanding creative workflows.

Samsung claims the P9 is the world’s first 8TB USB4 portable SSD supporting speeds of up to 4,000MB/s. The model was also recognised with a CES 2026 Innovation Award earlier this year.

P7 focuses on compatibility and everyday storage

While also featuring USB4 connectivity, the P7 is positioned as a general-purpose storage option for work, entertainment and everyday file management. Its supported devices include desktop computers, laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles and cameras, allowing users to access, transfer and back up content across different equipment.

Durability is a shared characteristic across the P Series, with Samsung stating that both models have been tested to withstand drops of up to two metres, along with shock and vibration. Both drives are listed in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB configurations.

Singapore pricing and availability

The Samsung P9 Portable SSD is available now exclusively through the Samsung Online Store. The P7 will be available from 10 October through Samsung’s online store and selected retail partners. Available capacities may vary by market, according to Samsung, and certain configurations may be released at a later date.
