Suno has launched its v6 family of AI music generation models, introducing new tools for creating, editing and remixing songs while marking a new stage in the company’s relationship with major music labels. The company says it trained the models on a new mix of data, including licensed material from partners such as Warner Music and BMG.

The v6 range initially includes three models: v6, v6-wild and v6-mini. The standard v6 model is Suno’s flagship system, while v6-wild targets users seeking more experimental and unpredictable results. The v6-mini model is available to users on free accounts, while access to the other two models requires a Pro or Premier subscription.

The launch comes as the AI music industry continues to face questions over copyright, training data and the rights of artists whose work may be used to develop generative music systems. Suno’s latest models represent an attempt to move towards licensed partnerships while the company retires its previous generation of models.

Suno introduces three models for different creative needs

Suno describes its flagship v6 model as “reliable, precise” and capable of producing consistently “polished music across every genre and style”. The company says the model is designed for users who want more predictable results when turning text prompts into finished tracks.

The v6-wild model takes a different approach. It is intended for musicians, producers and other users who want to explore ideas rather than receive what might be considered the strongest possible output. Jack Brody, Suno’s chief product officer, said creative professionals often want an AI system that can help them discover new directions.

“What we’ve heard time and time again [from musicians and producers] is that they’re often not looking for the single best output of the music model,” Brody said. “They’re actually looking for something that helps them think more expansively about the kind of music they could make. They’re looking for a brainstorming partner, and so v6-wild is our most creative model yet.”

The third model, v6-mini, is designed to give free users access to the new technology. Suno says the v6 models are also faster than the systems they replace, allowing generated tracks to become available within seconds of a user submitting a prompt.

The company has also expanded the editing capabilities available within its music-generation platform. Users can now make changes to particular sections of a song using natural-language instructions rather than having to regenerate the entire track. Users can also replace individual lyrics without creating a completely new song.

New tools make AI music generation more flexible

The v6 family adds several features intended to give users greater control over the music-generation process. One notable feature is the ability to combine material from multiple sources in a single request. For example, a user could ask Suno to take vocals from one generated track and drums from another, then add new lyrics.

Suno has also improved its sampling capabilities. The company says users can more precisely isolate parts of an existing recording and create a new beat using a text prompt. These tools could make the platform useful not only for generating complete songs, but also for developing individual musical ideas and experimenting with arrangements.

The models also have broader multimodal capabilities. Suno says they can work with audio, images and video as inputs when generating music. This lets users provide material beyond a written description as the starting point for a track.

Another addition focuses on emotion. Users can describe a feeling or atmosphere they want a song to evoke, with the models attempting to translate that description into music. While the company has not provided detailed information about how the system interprets these prompts, the feature reflects the broader effort to make generative music tools respond to creative intent rather than simple technical instructions.

Brody declined to share details about the underlying architecture or training process. He said the v6 family was built on new data collection and development work not used for earlier models.

“The v6 family has been trained from the ground up with a new set of data that differs from the data that went into our previous models,” he said. “That includes licensed data from our partners and user data, but most importantly all of the iteration and R&D that has gone into fine-tuning these models in ways to make them subjectively the best models on the market.”

Label partnerships come amid continuing copyright questions

The introduction of licensed training data is particularly significant given Suno’s history with the record industry. In 2024, several major record labels sued Suno and fellow AI music company Udio, alleging they used copyrighted recordings to train AI systems without permission.

Warner Music later dropped its lawsuit against Suno in 2025 after the companies reached a licensing agreement. Warner said the arrangement would give its artists “full control” over how their voices and music were used in AI-generated tracks.

Suno says the v6 release represents the formal beginning of its commercial relationship with labels including Warner and BMG. According to Brody, the partnerships are intended not only to provide licensed material for training but also to create new products involving participating artists.

“From the day it launches on September 9, this partnership starts generating revenue for our partners,” Brody said. “[…] it enables new product experiences to be developed with artists and our partners that allow people to create music and remix music from participating artists, which will in turn create additional revenue streams for the artists who participate.”

The approach could give Suno a way to build AI music products around agreements with rights holders rather than relying solely on contentious sources of training data. However, questions remain over whether its new partnerships will resolve wider concerns about the company’s earlier systems.

A leak reported in 2026 indicated that Suno scraped decades of music and podcasts from platforms including YouTube and Deezer to train its previous models. The company is now retiring those older systems as the v6 family becomes the focus of its platform.

The transition therefore represents more than a routine model upgrade. Suno is attempting to pair improved creative controls and faster generation with a different approach to data licensing and relationships with the music industry. Whether that strategy can address the broader legal and ethical concerns surrounding AI-generated music remains to be seen.
