Xbox introduces cross-device play history for seamless gaming

Xbox rolls out cross-device play history, syncing recently played and cloud-enabled games across consoles, PC, and handheld devices.

Xbox has begun rolling out a new cross-device play history feature, allowing players to access their recently played games across all supported platforms. The update was announced on 28 August and is now being made available to all users following a trial period with Xbox Insiders earlier this month.

With this update, players can resume their games seamlessly, regardless of whether they are using an Xbox console, a PC, or an Ally handheld device. The feature ensures that recently played titles remain consistent across all platforms, allowing gamers to continue where they left off without needing to search for their previous sessions manually.

Cloud-enabled games are included in the play history

In addition to synchronising gameplay history across devices, Xbox has confirmed that cloud-enabled games will also appear in players’ recently played lists. This applies to titles available through Xbox Game Pass as well as games owned outright by users.

As explained in the official blog post, “That means every cloud-enabled title, from original Xbox classics to Xbox Series X|S exclusives, is now in one place, whether you own it or play through Xbox Game Pass.” The inclusion of cloud-based content ensures that players have quick access to their full gaming library, regardless of the platform they choose to play on.

Easy access via console and PC

The feature has been integrated into both the Xbox console interface and the Xbox app for PC. On consoles, players can access their recently played games through the “Play history” tile on the home page. PC users will find the same feature under the “Play history” tab located beneath the “Most Recent” section in the Xbox app. The update also extends to the user’s library, creating a more unified and streamlined experience across devices.

This latest improvement reflects Xbox’s ongoing focus on enhancing cross-platform gaming and providing players with a consistent experience. The addition of cloud-based games and synchronised play history further integrates the company’s services, making it easier for players to enjoy their favourite titles wherever they are.
