8BitDo unveils Arcade Controller Pro for competitive fighting game players
8BitDo introduces the Arcade Controller Pro, featuring enhanced customisation, improved ergonomics, and wired and wireless connectivity.
Fighting game accessory maker 8BitDo has introduced the Arcade Controller Pro, a new controller designed for players who want high precision and customisation during competitive matches. The latest model builds on the company’s earlier leverless arcade controller, adding new features and refining its design for more demanding users.

Unlike traditional arcade sticks, the Arcade Controller Pro uses an all-button layout instead of a joystick. This controller style has become increasingly popular among fighting game enthusiasts who prefer button-based movement and faster input execution. While it may appear unfamiliar to newcomers, the design is intended to provide greater accuracy and quicker reactions during gameplay.
Refined design focuses on speed and comfort
The Arcade Controller Pro retains the rectangular shape of its predecessor but introduces several design improvements. The buttons are now smaller and closer together, allowing players to reach inputs more comfortably and reducing the hand movement required during matches.
One of the biggest changes is the addition of a fifth programmable button positioned on the far left of the controller. The previous model included four programmable buttons, but the extra button provides more control options while giving the player’s left hand additional room to rest and move naturally. According to 8BitDo, the layout has been developed specifically for serious fighting game players.
The controller also includes a built-in display that provides real-time information, including input commands and battery status. The screen can also be used to make quick adjustments to settings without requiring additional software, making it easier for players to customise their setup while practising or competing.
Above the main button layout is a dedicated control panel that allows users to switch between connection modes, adjust the volume and activate Tournament Lock mode. This feature helps prevent accidental button presses or unwanted setting changes during competitive play.
Extensive customisation options
Customisation remains a major focus of the Arcade Controller Pro. The controller features hot-swappable switches, allowing users to replace switches without soldering. It also introduces redesigned round button caps that can be installed from any direction, making installation quicker and more convenient.
The programmable P1-P5 buttons can also be replaced with flat lock caps, five of which are included with the controller. These lock caps reduce the risk of accidentally pressing a programmable button during intense gameplay, giving competitive players greater confidence in high-pressure situations.
For users who want even more control over their setup, the Arcade Controller Pro is compatible with 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2. The software allows players to remap buttons, create macros and personalise controller settings to suit their preferred play style. These options are intended to help players optimise the controller for different fighting games and competitive strategies.
The combination of hardware and software customisation reflects the growing demand among competitive gamers for peripherals tailored to individual preferences rather than relying on a standard layout.
Wired and wireless connectivity
The Arcade Controller Pro supports both wired and wireless play across multiple platforms. Wired mode is available on Windows PCs and Nintendo Switch systems via USB-C. To improve reliability during tournaments or competitive sessions, the controller includes a built-in metal locking mechanism that helps prevent the USB-C cable from disconnecting if it is accidentally pulled.
Players can also connect the cable from either the top or the side of the controller, allowing them to arrange their gaming setup more comfortably. This small design adjustment can help reduce cable interference during extended gaming sessions.
Wireless connectivity is available via a 2.4 GHz connection for Windows PCs and Bluetooth for the Nintendo Switch. According to 8BitDo, the controller can deliver up to 15 hours of battery life when RGB lighting is off. The package also includes a magnetic wrist rest for added comfort during long gaming sessions.
Although the Arcade Controller Pro has now been officially revealed, 8BitDo has not announced a release date or confirmed pricing. As a result, players interested in upgrading their fighting game setup will need to wait for further details on availability and cost.
