Apple expands self-repair options to iPads in the latest update

Apple expands Self Service Repair to include iPads, offering parts, tools, and manuals so users can fix devices at home.

If you’ve ever wanted to fix your iPad, Apple is now making that easier. As of Thursday, you can access official tools and parts for your device through the expanded Self Service Repair programme. Initially launched in 2022, the programme has grown to support a broader range of Apple products, including the latest iPads.

This move is part of Apple’s ongoing commitment to give users more control over the maintenance of their devices. Whether you need to replace a battery, fix a cracked display, or change a charging port, you can now access the same tools, parts, and manuals used in Apple Stores and by authorised technicians.

Supported iPad models are now included

Starting June 6, you can order repair kits and parts for several new iPad models. These include the iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad Pro (M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and the iPad (A16). At home, you can repair key components like the display, camera, battery, and external charging ports.

The programme will also allow you to rent toolkits if you don’t want to buy the tools outright. For added guidance, Apple Diagnostics will be available to help you identify and troubleshoot hardware issues before you begin your repair.

In a press release, Brian Naumann, Apple’s vice president of AppleCare, said, “At Apple, our goal is to create the world’s greatest products that last as long as possible. With today’s announcement, we’re excited to expand our repair services to more customers, enabling them to extend the life of their products further — all without compromising safety, security, or privacy.”

A growing list of repairable Apple products

Since launching the programme in 2022, Apple has added more devices to the list of those eligible for Self Service Repair. The service now covers 65 Apple products, including popular items like the iPhone 16e, MacBook Air, and Mac Studio. This makes it easier to keep your Apple devices running smoothly without visiting a store.

Canada will soon become the 34th country to offer Self Service Repair, allowing even more users to benefit. This global expansion reflects Apple’s broader effort to support customers who prefer hands-on solutions.

Genuine parts are now available for more professionals

Apple also shared updates to its Genuine Parts Distributor programme. This initiative helps independent repair professionals by giving them access to official Apple service parts and components.

Genuine Apple parts are available through MobileSentrix in the United States. In Europe, you can get them from both MobileSentrix and Mobileparts.shop. These distributors now offer a wide range of parts for iPhone repairs—including screens, batteries, and charging ports—and iPad parts will be available from June 6.

This update is good news if you’re a technician or own a repair business. It makes it easier to get the parts you need without going through Apple directly. You’ll also have peace of mind knowing the parts meet Apple’s quality standards.

As Apple continues to grow its self-repair efforts, this latest expansion is a welcome change for iPad users who want more flexibility and independence in maintaining their devices.
