Ayn has revealed its latest gaming handheld, the Thor, a dual-screen device reminiscent of the Nintendo DS. The company first teased the product in a YouTube video earlier this week and has now confirmed its full specifications, pricing, and release details.
The Thor range will include three models: the Thor Lite, Thor Pro, and Thor Max. Preorders will open on 25 August at 10:30 PM ET, with prices starting at US$249 for the base Thor Lite and rising to US$429 for the high-end Thor Max. The handheld will be available in a transparent purple colourway inspired by the Game Boy Colour, alongside black, white, and a rainbow option featuring buttons styled after the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).
Specifications and performance
All Thor models feature a six-inch AMOLED primary display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The secondary 3.92-inch AMOLED display offers a 60Hz refresh rate and a 1,240 x 1,080 resolution.
The Thor Lite will be powered by a Snapdragon 865 processor, offering up to 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage. The Pro and Max variants will feature the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, with the Max version providing up to 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage.
Each model is equipped with a 6,000 mAh battery and runs on Android 13. The handheld also supports video output, a USB-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a TF card slot, and offers connectivity via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Ayn has reinforced the hinge mechanism to enhance durability, added an active cooling system to manage heat, and equipped the device with Hall effect joysticks for improved precision.
Competition in the dual-screen market
Ayn’s Thor is entering a growing market for dual-screen gaming devices. The Ayaneo Flip DS currently dominates this space, starting at US$1,139, though Ayaneo has announced a more affordable Pocket DS model. Retroid has also introduced the Flip 2 earlier this year, alongside an accessory that adds a second screen to select devices in its product line.
With a starting price of less than US$300, Ayn is positioning the Thor as a cost-effective alternative to its competitors. The company has confirmed that the first batch of Thor handhelds will begin shipping in mid-October, giving gamers a new option for portable, dual-screen gaming before the end of the year.
