DJI Osmo Pocket 4 leak suggests launch may be imminent

DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4 appears in FCC filings, hinting at an imminent launch amid rumours of new features and a possible US product ban.

A new leak suggests that DJI may be preparing to launch the Osmo Pocket 4, the long-awaited successor to the Osmo Pocket 3. The device has appeared in fresh documentation filed with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), strongly indicating that an official announcement could arrive soon. The sighting follows earlier rumours and image leaks hinting at a redesigned vlogging camera from DJI.

FCC filing hints at an upcoming release

Any device intended for sale in the United States must first receive FCC approval, and the newly published documents confirm that DJI has reached this stage. According to information first noticed by New Camera and later reported by Notebookcheck, the filing suggests the Osmo Pocket 4 is nearly ready for retail.

The documentation itself offers only limited technical detail. It confirms that the camera will support Wi-Fi 5, matching the wireless capabilities of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. However, the most notable change mentioned is a larger battery. The new model is expected to feature a 1,545 mAh battery, up from the 1,300 mAh in its predecessor.

While the impact of this upgrade on real-world performance remains to be seen, higher capacity typically means longer operating times. Even so, battery life will depend on several factors, including power demands from new features and overall system efficiency. Reviewers will need hands-on experience with the device to determine how much improvement users can expect.

Expected design changes and camera features

Earlier leaks hinted at a major redesign for the Osmo Pocket 4. Images circulating online appear to show a refreshed body style that may include a second display, a feature absent from previous generations. If accurate, such an addition could make the camera more user-friendly, especially for vloggers who benefit from front-facing viewing options. However, a second screen also influences battery consumption, potentially offsetting gains from the increased battery capacity.

In addition to an extra display, rumours suggest the new device may include a second camera. This enhancement could broaden creative possibilities by offering multiple focal lengths or improved optical quality. If confirmed, users could expect better photo and video output along with more versatile shooting modes. These changes would mark a significant step forward for DJI’s compact gimbal-based camera line, which has previously earned praise for its portability and stabilisation performance.

Possible launch before a looming US ban

The timing of the FCC filing is particularly noteworthy amid mounting concerns about a potential ban on new DJI products in the United States. Current indications suggest that restrictions could take effect on 23 December, unless the company undergoes a government-mandated security audit before then.

This situation puts pressure on DJI to release the Osmo Pocket 4 before any formal prohibition is issued. While it is unclear whether US authorities can retroactively restrict products launched before 23 December, the company is likely motivated to move quickly. Bringing the new camera to market before any regulatory action would help ensure it reaches customers without additional hurdles.

With certification now complete and rumours continuing to grow, an official announcement from DJI could arrive soon. For now, enthusiasts and content creators will have to wait a little longer to see exactly what upgrades the Osmo Pocket 4 will deliver.
