DJI’s RS 4 Mini stabiliser now features advanced subject tracking

DJI’s RS 4 Mini stabiliser introduces subject tracking, improved battery life, and better handling, making it an excellent tool for content creators.

DJI has launched an upgraded version of its smallest camera stabiliser in the Ronin series, the RS 4 Mini. It builds on last year’s RS 3 Mini, offering a compact and lightweight design while introducing new subject-tracking capabilities. Designed for smaller mirrorless cameras and smartphones, the RS 4 Mini provides a more affordable alternative to the RS 4 and RS 4 Pro. Although slightly heavier than its predecessor, it brings key improvements, including an optional tracking module similar to the one on DJI’s Osmo Mobile 7 Pro.

The DJI RS 4 Mini is now available in three different versions through DJI’s online store. The standalone gimbal is priced at US$369, while the US$459 DJI RS 4 Mini Combo includes the new tracking module and a Mini Briefcase Handle for enhanced shooting flexibility. The US$478 DJI RS 4 Mini Creator Combo also offers the same accessories and a smartphone holder, catering to mobile content creators who want more creative control.

Weighing 890 grams (just under two pounds), the RS 4 Mini is slightly heavier than the RS 3 Mini, which weighed 795 grams. However, it maintains the same payload capacity, supporting up to 4.4 pounds of cameras. Battery life has been improved from 10 hours to 13, with a 30-minute fast charge providing up to five hours of usage, making it a reliable tool for extended shoots.

Intelligent tracking and enhanced performance

DJI’s RS Intelligent Tracking Module is one of the most significant upgrades to the RS 4 Mini. Featuring its built-in camera, this module enables the gimbal to automatically track and keep a moving subject in the frame from up to 32 feet away—without needing the DJI Ronin mobile app. This makes it an ideal feature for solo creators looking for smooth, professional footage. The tracking function can be remotely activated or stopped using an open-palm hand gesture, adding to its ease of use. A new Responsive mode has been introduced, improving tracking performance when capturing fast-moving subjects.

Other refinements include a quicker transition to vertical shooting mode, a Teflon coating that enhances smoothness when balancing and adjusting movements, and a redesigned horizontal briefcase handle that is now lighter and smaller, allowing for better handling during low-angle shots.

With its enhanced tracking features, improved battery life, and added functionality, the RS 4 Mini could be a compelling upgrade for content creators looking for a compact yet powerful stabiliser.
