JBL has introduced Cove, a three-model Wi-Fi speaker range designed for whole-home audio, flexible multi-room playback and integration with compatible JBL soundbars. Comprising the JBL Cove M1, Cove P1 and Cove X1, the line-up is powered by JBL’s in-house platform, with the JBL One app providing speaker grouping, audio customisation and access to music services. Each speaker can operate on its own, as part of a stereo pair or within a wider multi-room system.
Three models cover different listening needs
The line-up begins with the compact JBL Cove M1, a two-way design that pairs three tweeters with one woofer while supporting automatic self-tuning, Constant Sound Field, AI Sound Boost, stereo pairing and whole-home multi-room audio. Designed as the portable option, the Cove P1 adds Dolby Atmos support and carries an IP56 rating, combining four tweeters, including one up-firing tweeter, with a single woofer. JBL rates its battery for up to 14 hours, with recharging handled by placing the speaker on its dock.
The Cove X1 sits at the top of the range, using four tweeters, including one up-firing unit, together with two woofers. It also supports Dolby Atmos and shares the self-tuning, Constant Sound Field, AI Sound Boost, stereo-pairing and multi-room features available across the Cove range. JBL describes its three audio-processing technologies as tools for adapting playback to speaker placement and listening conditions. Automatic self-tuning is intended to optimise performance according to placement, Constant Sound Field is designed to provide balanced sound throughout the room, and AI Sound Boost is intended to minimise distortion at higher volumes.
Multi-room playback extends to home theatre
The JBL One app allows listeners to group Cove speakers for playback across several rooms or start streaming in an individual room without first dismantling an existing group. JBL also describes whole-home setup as app-optional, with a three-step setup process. Outside the app, Music Follows Me provides another way to move playback around the home without using a phone or the app. Pressing and holding the Moment button allows music to follow the listener between Cove speakers, while the same control supports Spotify Tap for one-touch access to Spotify. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth alongside AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect, with JBL also listing high-resolution audio support.
Beyond multi-room listening, Cove speakers can work with compatible JBL Bar Series MK2 soundbars as rear channels in a multi-channel Dolby Atmos home theatre configuration. The compatible models listed by JBL are the JBL Bar 300, JBL Bar 500, JBL Bar 800, JBL Bar 1000 and JBL Bar 1300 MK2 Series. Multi-channel audio is currently available with the Cove M1 and Cove P1, while support for the Cove X1 will be enabled through a future software update.
