Mobile Pixels has introduced the Prisma, a 40-inch curved 5K monitor that combines a high-resolution display with a range of desktop accessories in a single workstation. The monitor includes an integrated docking station, expandable SSD storage, wireless charging and a dedicated mounting space for Apple’s Mac mini and Mac Studio computers.
The Prisma features an LG IPS Black panel with a 5,120 × 2,160 pixel resolution. Its ultrawide format provides additional horizontal screen space for users working with multiple applications, spreadsheets, creative software and other demanding workloads. By integrating several commonly used accessories into the monitor’s design, Mobile Pixels aims to reduce desktop clutter and simplify workstation setups.
The company is offering the monitor on Kickstarter at an introductory price of US$999. This is a significant reduction from its planned retail price of US$1,600, though buyers should consider shipping costs and the risks of crowdfunding before ordering.
Prisma combines a 5K ultrawide screen with professional features
The Mobile Pixels Prisma features a 40-inch curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate, combining high resolution with smooth on-screen motion. Its IPS Black panel delivers improved contrast over conventional IPS displays, making it suitable for users who need a large workspace for everyday computing and professional applications.
Colour reproduction is another focus. The Prisma supports about 1.07 billion colours with its quasi-10-bit output and covers 99% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. These specifications make it a potential option for photographers, video editors and other creative professionals who rely on accurate colour representation when working with digital content.
The ultrawide 5,120 × 2,160 pixel resolution offers more horizontal workspace than a standard 4K display. This lets users keep several windows open at once, reducing the need to switch between applications. The 120Hz refresh rate may also make scrolling through documents, navigating interfaces, and working with compatible content feel more responsive.
Connectivity is another major component of the Prisma’s design. The integrated docking station includes USB-C, USB-A and USB-B connections, alongside SD and microSD card readers. These options allow users to connect peripherals and transfer files without relying on a collection of separate adapters and hubs.
The monitor also includes a keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switch, letting two connected computers share compatible peripherals. This feature could be useful for people who work across a desktop computer and a laptop, as it reduces the need to maintain separate keyboards and mice for each machine. Picture-by-Picture functionality allows content from two connected computers to appear simultaneously on the display.
For users who need additional storage, the Prisma incorporates an M.2 SSD expansion slot. This lets you add internal solid-state storage without a separate external drive enclosure on the desk. However, the practical performance and supported storage configurations will depend on the final hardware specifications.
Integrated Mac mini stand adds cooling and wireless charging
A key feature of the Prisma is its dedicated cradle for Apple’s Mac mini and Mac Studio computers. The mounting area is built into the monitor’s support structure, allowing a compatible computer to sit within the workstation rather than taking up separate desktop space.
The design also includes an active cooling fan that adjusts its operation based on temperature. This is intended to help manage heat around the computer mounting area, although detailed thermal performance measurements have not been provided. Its effectiveness will therefore need to be assessed once the monitor is available for independent testing.
The Prisma is not limited to Apple’s desktop computers. Its connectivity options also support Windows PCs, laptops and other compatible devices, making it suitable for users who want an integrated workstation without committing exclusively to Apple’s ecosystem. Laptop users can connect via USB-C, which also supports charging, reducing the number of cables needed on the desk.
The monitor’s base includes wireless charging, with a 15W charging pad that provides a convenient place to power compatible smartphones. This arrangement gives users an additional charging point without requiring a separate wireless charging accessory.
The monitor also includes a retractable iPhone mounting mechanism. With a compatible device and setup, it supports Apple’s Continuity Camera features, including Centre Stage and Desk View. These functions can improve video calls by using an iPhone camera instead of a computer’s built-in webcam.
By combining display connectivity, storage expansion, computer mounting, and mobile-device charging, Mobile Pixels is positioning the Prisma as an all-in-one desktop solution. Its appeal will depend on whether buyers value the convenience of an integrated system enough to justify the price, especially compared with buying a conventional monitor and separate accessories.
Kickstarter price starts at US$999 ahead of planned 2027 deliveries
Mobile Pixels is offering the Prisma through Kickstarter at an introductory price of US$999, compared with a planned retail price of US$1,600. The offer saves eligible early backers US$601, or about 38%.
The company has limited the discounted allocation to 260 monitors. At the time of the original report, 255 units had reportedly been reserved, leaving five available at the promotional price. Availability may change as the campaign progresses, and the introductory price may no longer be available once the allocation is exhausted.
Shipping charges are additional and can reach US$80, though the final cost may vary by buyer location. This means the total expense could exceed the advertised US$999 price, particularly for international customers who may also need to account for applicable taxes or import charges.
The Kickstarter campaign had reportedly raised US$434,707 from 392 backers against an original funding target of US$15,000, with 23 days remaining at the time of writing. The project also offers a US$10 contribution option for supporters who want to help fund its development without receiving a monitor.
Deliveries are estimated to begin in January 2027. However, the projected schedule is not guaranteed, as crowdfunding projects can face manufacturing, supply chain, and shipping delays. Kickstarter contributions also carry risks, and reaching a funding target does not guarantee that a project will deliver the promised product.
For prospective buyers, the Prisma’s combination of a large 5K screen, integrated docking station, SSD expansion, wireless charging and Mac mini mounting system offers an alternative to assembling a workstation from separate components. Its final value will depend on the delivered hardware, real-world display performance, cooling effectiveness and the company’s ability to meet its delivery estimate.
