Protelindo speeds up operations and cuts SAP migration time in half with UiPath

Protelindo improves operations and halves its SAP migration time with UiPath automation, boosting efficiency and employee upskilling.

UiPath has announced its continued support for Protelindo’s digital transformation, helping the Indonesian telecommunications infrastructure company streamline operations, reduce manual workload, and halve its SAP system migration time.

As a major provider of telecommunication towers and fibre infrastructure in Indonesia, Protelindo manages around 35,000 tower sites across the country. Before turning to automation, the company had to hire up to 30 temporary staff to handle invoicing for more than 54,000 tower tenancies each year, along with managing around 56,000 fibre segments every quarter.

Automating for efficiency and speed

Since adopting UiPath solutions in 2020, Protelindo has seen a significant improvement in the speed and efficiency of its business processes. Tasks that once took a month to complete can now be done in a week—without any need for temporary workers. This acceleration has also led to faster payment cycles and stronger cash flow.

One of the key tools used by Protelindo is UiPath Test Suite, a test automation platform that played a vital role in the company’s migration to SAP S/4HANA. The platform allowed the team to quickly test nearly 400 transactions and reports, ensuring their systems ran smoothly after the transition. This approach helped them reduce the time required for the migration by 50%.

Investing in workforce readiness

In line with its broader digital transformation goals, Protelindo is also focusing on upskilling its workforce. In February 2024, the company launched an internal programme called ProAction to raise awareness and skills around automation among its non-IT staff.

This initiative ran for two months and included a two-day workshop where employees learnt how to use automation tools. UiPath supported the effort by contributing its experience from running similar programmes, such as hackathons, and provided access to UiPath StudioX. This low-code platform enabled staff with no prior programming knowledge to automate repetitive tasks on their own.

Tjin Tak Wong, Chief of IT at Protelindo, said: “We see automation as a strategic priority that will help drive Protelindo’s business transformation and growth. Our collaboration with UiPath has been a significant factor in enhancing our operational efficiency and empowering our employees to maximise the potential of automation. With this support, we have been able to lay a solid foundation for Protelindo to optimise internal processes and deliver seamless services.”

Supporting long-term growth through automation

UiPath, a leading provider of enterprise automation and AI software, believes that Protelindo’s journey reflects the broader benefits of integrating automation into core business functions. Richard Spence, Area Vice President of Growth Sales for UiPath’s International Region, commented: “Protelindo is a stellar example of using automation to revolutionise the way we work and overcome business challenges. We are proud to empower Protelindo’s digital transformation journey to accelerate the company’s growth. As we shift towards a new era of agentic AI, agentic automation is key to providing businesses the agility and speed needed to unlock new possibilities and business potential.”

Protelindo’s partnership with UiPath marks a strong example of how automation can drive tangible results, not just in technology implementation but also in workforce development and long-term business scalability.
