Samsung unveils slimmer Galaxy Z Fold7 with big camera and AI upgrades

Samsung launches its thinnest foldable yet, the Galaxy Z Fold7, featuring a 200MP camera, enhanced AI capabilities, and a larger display.

Samsung has officially unveiled its thinnest foldable phone to date, the Galaxy Z Fold7, during its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9 in New York. If you’ve been waiting for something lighter, smarter, and packed with premium features, this new foldable may be exactly what you’re looking for.

With a completely reworked body, upgraded durability, enhanced performance, and fresh AI-powered software tools, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is set to take the lead in Samsung’s foldable lineup — and possibly in the entire foldable market.

Thinner body, bigger screen, and no battery compromise

When unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is just 4.2mm thin, making it the slimmest book-style foldable Samsung has ever created. Folded shut, it measures 8.9mm and weighs only 215g, making it lighter than both the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Despite the reduced thickness, Samsung has managed to increase the main screen size to 8 inches, which is an 11% increase from its predecessor. The new Dynamic AMOLED 2X display delivers a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2,600 nits, and includes Samsung’s Vision Booster technology.

Surprisingly, the 4,400mAh battery remains unchanged from last year’s Z Fold6, proving that size reductions didn’t come at the cost of battery life. The new foldable also comes with a reinforced design. Samsung introduced the Armor FlexHinge, which uses a multi-rail structure to distribute stress better and reduce crease visibility. The phone’s hinge and frame are built with Advanced Armor Aluminum, which Samsung says increases durability by 10%. Internally, the foldable screen utilises a new version of Ultra-Thin Glass that’s now 50% thicker and further protected by a Titanium plate for added strength.

Performance boost and camera breakthrough

Under the hood, the Z Fold7 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, the same high-performance chip found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This exclusive processor enables the Fold7 to achieve faster clock speeds, resulting in improved multitasking and gaming performance. The headline camera upgrade is the introduction of a 200MP main sensor, marking a first for the Galaxy Z series. Samsung now matches the image quality of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, allowing you to capture ultra-high-resolution photos or shoot in a 12.5MP binned mode for better lighting in low-light environments.

The rear camera setup also includes a 12MP ultrawide lens, which doubles as a macro camera, and a 10MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom. The internal display features a 10MP camera, ideal for video calls and wide group selfies, which takes advantage of the massive main screen as a full viewfinder. The Z Fold7 supports 10-bit HDR video recording and introduces an enhanced ProVisual Engine for better image processing. You also get useful photo editing tools, such as Photo Assist, which now allows you to resize, reframe, or move subjects. Distraction removal has been upgraded with a single “Suggest Erases” button, and Audio Eraser now comes with a toggle for easier noise control.

Galaxy AI and One UI 8 take centre stage

The Galaxy Z Fold7 launches with One UI 8, based on Android 16, and is packed with new AI capabilities. You can use Gemini Live for real-time screen sharing and visual questions, where the phone stands upright and uses the camera to interpret what’s in front of it. With the new Circle to Search feature, you can highlight in-game items or objects to get instant search results such as game tips, video guides, or reviews — all without leaving the app you’re using.

The large foldable screen also enhances productivity. You can drag and drop AI results into documents or messages while keeping the original content on screen. Side-by-side editing enables you to compare photos in real-time, making it perfect for content creators or anyone who relies on multitasking.

Samsung is offering the Galaxy Z Fold7 in Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, and Jetblack, along with a Mint colour exclusive to the Samsung Online Store. Pre-orders began on July 9 at 10PM, and official sales start on August 1. Pricing in Singapore ranges from S$2,698 (12GB + 256GB) to S$3,328 (16GB + 1TB). The Z Fold7 supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, UWB, IP48 water and dust resistance, and dual Nano SIMs with eSIM capability. Samsung claims the device can charge to 50% in just 30 minutes with its 25W fast charger, though the adapter is sold separately.

If you’ve been holding off for the right foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold7 might be the one that finally makes you upgrade.
