Unilab partners with SAP and AWS to power digital transformation

Unilab adopts RISE with SAP on AWS to modernise operations and build a future-ready, cloud-based healthcare enterprise.

Unilab, the largest pharmaceutical and healthcare company in the Philippines, has partnered with SAP to launch a major digital transformation initiative using RISE with SAP on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The project aims to modernise the company’s core systems and boost long-term growth as it celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2025.

The initiative is part of Unilab’s broader vision to become more agile and competitive in the evolving healthcare sector. By adopting SAP S/4HANA Cloud through RISE with SAP, Unilab is set to improve operational efficiency, streamline its processes, and scale more effectively across markets.

Preparing for the future with cloud-based ERP

Unilab first implemented SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC) in 2005 to support its operations. Now, with its eye on the next 20 years, the company is shifting to SAP S/4HANA Cloud as part of its future-ready strategy. The move will allow Unilab to standardise business operations, improve productivity, and integrate advanced technologies like automation and data analytics.

By choosing RISE with SAP on AWS, Unilab will benefit from enhanced decision-making capabilities and better scalability. The deployment also includes access to SAP Business AI and SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), enabling the company to keep pace with increasing demands and challenges in the pharmaceutical industry.

“Twenty years ago, we were running on multiple tech platforms, but it was a much simpler business back then,” said Sebastian Frederick Baquiran, President and CEO of Unilab, Inc. “Today, not only does Unilab Group have a strong product business in pharmaceuticals, we now have a significant and growing healthcare service business. It is our vision to be the champions of healthcare and life sciences in this part of the world… and this moment presents a golden opportunity to further streamline and enhance our processes and policies.”

Driving efficiency through innovation

With this transition, Unilab is aiming to improve both its supply chain and manufacturing processes. The company is integrating more automation, adopting AI-powered enterprise applications, and applying data-driven insights to boost efficiency. These changes will help Unilab respond faster to shifting market needs and healthcare demands.

Jill Santos, Managing Director at SAP Philippines, highlighted the significance of the partnership: “Unilab’s adoption of RISE with SAP on AWS underscores how leading organisations in Philippines are embracing innovation and cloud technology to tackle complex industry challenges. By modernising its core systems with SAP S/4HANA Cloud and leveraging the standardised framework and proven transformation methodology offered in RISE with SAP, Unilab is building a future-ready enterprise—one that is more agile, operationally efficient, and competitive in the evolving pharmaceutical landscape.”

As Unilab embarks on this cloud transformation journey, it positions itself not just for internal optimisation, but also for broader innovation in the regional healthcare sector.
