Apple upgrades Vision Pro with M5 chip and redesigned headband

Apple updates the Vision Pro with the M5 chip, improved visuals, better comfort, and longer battery life, launching in Singapore on 22 October.

Apple has unveiled an updated version of its Vision Pro headset, now equipped with the company’s latest M5 chip – the same processor found in the new iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. Alongside the internal boost, the headset also features a redesigned Dual Knit Band, which aims to improve comfort and address one of the most common concerns about the original model.

Enhanced performance and visual upgrades

The most notable change lies in performance. The M5 chip introduces a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine built on Apple’s 3-nanometre process. According to Apple, this delivers up to 50 per cent faster performance in AI-intensive tasks and doubles the speed in some third-party apps. Despite already being a high-performing headset, the Vision Pro’s upgraded internals promise a noticeable improvement in responsiveness and graphical capability.

In terms of visuals, Apple claims users will experience sharper and smoother imagery. The new M5 chip enables approximately 10 per cent more pixels to be rendered on the Vision Pro’s micro-OLED panels, along with refresh rates of up to 120Hz. Hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading are also supported, though it remains to be seen how many applications will fully utilise these new features.

Improved comfort and longer battery life

Apple has also focused on user comfort with the redesigned Dual Knit Band. The refreshed band is made from 3D-knitted fabric and now features a dual-rib design with tungsten counterweights for better balance and fit. The change is expected to make the headset more comfortable for extended use, resolving complaints about the original version’s fit and pressure points.

Battery performance has also seen slight improvements. The new Vision Pro delivers up to 2.5 hours of mixed use or three hours when watching videos. It also comes pre-installed with visionOS 26, introducing Apple Intelligence features and 180-degree immersive video support, further enhancing the headset’s entertainment and productivity potential.

Availability and pricing

The updated Apple Vision Pro will be available in Singapore from 22 October, with pre-orders opening on 17 October. It will retail for S$4,999, offering consumers an upgraded experience with improved power, visuals, and comfort just in time for the holiday season.

In addition to the new Vision Pro, Apple has also introduced a refreshed 14-inch MacBook Pro and a new iPad Pro, both powered by the M5 chip, marking the company’s latest step forward in performance and efficiency across its product lineup.
