DJI launches new Osmo Mobile 7 series with enhanced tracking and built-in tripod stands

Discover the new DJI Osmo Mobile 7 series, featuring improved tracking, stability, and gesture controls for smoother smartphone filming.

DJI has introduced the Osmo Mobile 7 series, improving its smartphone gimbals nearly two and a half years after the release of the Osmo Mobile 6. The new Osmo Mobile 7 and Osmo Mobile 7P models have upgraded features that make capturing smooth, cinematic-quality footage on your smartphone easier.

The Osmo Mobile 7P closely mirrors the design of the Osmo Mobile 6 but has a stronger three-axis smartphone stabiliser for smoother video capture. One of the highlights of the 7P is its extension rod, which can stretch up to 215mm, offering extra reach when needed. The Side Wheel, located on the handle, allows for manual zooming, adjusting focus, or tweaking the brightness and colour temperature of the fill light using the new OM Multifunctional Module.

Another noteworthy feature of the Osmo Mobile 7P is its built-in tripod. This makes the device especially useful when you need added stability or filming yourself, ensuring steady shots with minimal effort.

New Multifunctional Module with gesture controls

The new Multifunctional Module is included with the Osmo Mobile 7P and enhances the gimbal’s tracking and focusing abilities. Whether you’re shooting in a crowd or need to refocus after losing a subject from the frame, the module ensures that your shots remain crisp and stable. It works seamlessly with your smartphone’s native camera app, live streaming apps, and other camera software. However, it’s important to note that ActiveTrack 7.0 technology is only compatible with the DJI Mimo app.

Additionally, the Multifunctional Module introduces gesture controls. With a simple hand gesture, you can take photos, start or stop recording, or adjust the composition of your shots. This is especially helpful for solo filmmakers.

  • Holding your palm up to the module starts or stops intelligent tracking.
  • Making a “V” gesture takes a photo or starts/stops video recording.
  • A “Double L” gesture with both hands adjusts the subject’s framing.

The Osmo Mobile 7 is the lightest in its class, weighing only about 300g. While it lacks the integrated extension rod and Side Wheel found in the 7P, it still features ActiveTrack 7.0 technology and a compact, travel-friendly design. The gimbal also includes built-in storage and a tripod, making it an excellent option for filmmakers on the go. If you want to add more functionality, the Multifunctional Module can be purchased separately.
