Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold: Five major upgrades you need to know about

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold could rival Samsung and Vivo with a brighter display, better battery, 1TB storage, and IP68 protection, according to leaks.

Google’s new Pixel 10 Pro Fold is on the horizon—and if recent leaks are accurate, you’re in for a major upgrade. With a series of improvements over its predecessor, this foldable could rival the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and the Vivo X Fold5.

A report from Android Headlines claims to reveal official specifications of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Among the details, five key changes stand out, hinting that Google is taking the foldable market seriously this time around.

Bigger and brighter displays

If you’re someone who enjoys a large display, you’ll be pleased to know that while the main foldable screen remains at 8.0 inches, the cover display is getting a small but meaningful upgrade—from 6.3 to 6.4 inches. What’s more, the new cover screen is expected to offer a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. That’s a 10% improvement over the previous model, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, providing better visibility in direct sunlight and a more vibrant viewing experience.

This brightness upgrade could be beneficial for users who rely heavily on the cover screen for quick tasks or messaging on the go. It also means better contrast and colour accuracy when using your phone outdoors.

Google is set to introduce its latest custom chip, the Tensor G5, which is expected to power the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It’ll be paired with 16GB of RAM, offering a faster and more responsive user experience, especially for multitasking and gaming.

Battery life also sees a noticeable increase. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumoured to have a 5,015mAh battery, a 7% jump from the previous model. While it doesn’t match the Vivo X Fold5’s hefty 6,000mAh battery, it does outperform the Galaxy Z Fold7, with a battery that’s 9% larger.

Storage is another area where you’ll see new options. For the first time, Google may introduce a 1TB version of its foldable phone. Previously, you had to choose between 256GB and 512GB models. If you need more space for apps, videos, or games, this added option could make a big difference.

Rugged protection and unchanged cameras

One of the most significant changes is the expected durability of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It’s tipped to be the first foldable phone to come with an IP68 rating, making it dust-tight and protected against prolonged water immersion. This places it ahead of the competition: the Galaxy Z Fold7 only offers an IP48 rating, while the Vivo X Fold5 has IPX8/IPX9 water resistance and IPX5 dust resistance.

However, if you were hoping for better cameras, you might be disappointed. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to carry over the same camera setup as its predecessor. That includes a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultra-wide lens, a 10.8MP 5x telephoto lens, and a 10MP selfie camera. While still capable, it’s not an upgrade in this area.

Launch expected this August

Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 10 series on August 20, featuring the standard Pixel 10 and a new foldable model. Rumours suggest the base model may also receive a telephoto camera, while the Pixel 10 Pro may only see minor tweaks.

If the leaked specs are accurate, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is shaping up to be a strong contender in the foldable phone race. With a better display, faster performance, longer battery life, additional storage, and enhanced protection, this is your next go-to device.
