Huawei opens pre-registration for its second tri-fold smartphone in China

Huawei opens pre-registration for its Mate XTs tri-fold phone in China ahead of its 4 September launch, with multiple colours and storage options.

Huawei has officially opened pre-registration for its second tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XTs, in China. The announcement comes as Samsung is expected to reveal its own tri-fold device later this year, putting the two companies in direct competition in the foldable smartphone market.

Pre-registration opens ahead of official launch

The Huawei Mate XTs is scheduled to launch on 4 September 2025 in China, but its pre-registration page is already live on VMall, Huawei’s official e-commerce platform for Chinese users. The listing confirms that customers can now reserve the device ahead of its official release, signalling Huawei’s confidence in its next-generation foldable phone.

Although the product page is active, Huawei has not yet released a detailed specification sheet or confirmed the retail price. This has left potential buyers with only limited information about the device. However, the company has revealed that the Mate XTs will be available in four colours: Black, White, Purple, and Red. Customers will also have the choice of three storage configurations, with options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB, each paired with 16GB of RAM.

Expected features and performance upgrades

While Huawei has not shared full specifications, rumours circulating on Chinese social media platforms, such as Weibo, suggest that the Mate XTs will include significant upgrades over their predecessor. Reports indicate that the device may be powered by the Kirin 920 processor, a chip expected to deliver improved performance and energy efficiency.

Camera technology is also a focus, with speculation pointing towards an enhanced 50-megapixel main sensor and an improved periscope telephoto camera. These features, if confirmed, would align with Huawei’s strategy of emphasising photography in its flagship devices.

Growing competition in foldable smartphones

The launch of the Mate XTs places Huawei ahead of Samsung in the race to deliver a tri-fold smartphone. Although Samsung has not yet confirmed its own tri-fold device, industry watchers expect an announcement to be made soon. Huawei’s decision to begin pre-registration early may be an attempt to capture consumer interest and secure early sales before its rival enters the market.

The Mate XTs follows Huawei’s first tri-fold model, further solidifying the company’s commitment to advancing foldable technology. By offering multiple storage tiers and a wide range of colours, Huawei appears to be targeting a broad audience, from tech enthusiasts to luxury smartphone buyers.

Details such as pricing and full specifications are expected to be revealed closer to the official launch date.
