Motorola launches ultra-thin Edge 70 smartphone in the UK

Motorola launches the ultra-thin Edge 70 smartphone in the UK, featuring triple 50MP cameras, AI tools, and up to 50 hours of battery life.

Motorola has unveiled its latest addition to the smartphone market, the Edge 70, an ultra-thin device designed to rival Apple’s recently released iPhone Air. While it measures slightly thicker than Apple’s model at 5.9mm compared to the Air’s 5.6mm, the Edge 70 features a more discreet camera bump, offering a sleek and streamlined appearance.

Cutting-edge design and camera technology

The Motorola Edge 70 is built with a frame made from aircraft-grade aluminium, ensuring strength without compromising on its lightweight profile. To further enhance durability, the phone features Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and IP69-rated water protection, providing users with peace of mind during daily use.

The Edge 70’s camera system is another standout feature. It houses three 50MP sensors, with the main camera capable of capturing 4K video. The setup also includes an ultrawide lens with macro functionality, a dedicated light sensor, and a front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. Motorola has incorporated AI-powered tools for image enhancement and editing, aligning with current trends in smartphone photography.

AI integration and performance

One of the more distinctive additions to the Edge 70 is the company’s proprietary Moto AI2 chatbot. The virtual assistant can perform standard AI tasks such as generating images and answering user questions. Motorola claims that its AI can also interpret on-screen content to offer relevant assistance, suggesting a step forward in contextual user interaction.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Mobile chipset, ensuring strong performance for everyday use, gaming, and multitasking. It also ships with a magnetic case that supports wireless charging, providing convenience for users on the go.

Despite its slim build, Motorola has managed to include a sizeable 4800mAh battery in the Edge 70. The company states that the battery can deliver up to 50 hours of continuous use, which is significantly longer than the iPhone Air’s reported 22 to 27 hours of use. This impressive battery life enables extended browsing, streaming, and social media use without the need for constant recharging.

Availability, pricing, and support

The Motorola Edge 70 is priced from £700, approximately equivalent to US$910, positioning it competitively within the premium smartphone range. The device is currently available for purchase in the United Kingdom. However, Motorola has not yet announced any plans for a release in other regions, including North America.

In terms of software, the company has committed to providing active support and security updates until 2031. This long-term update promise ensures that users can expect continued optimisation and protection over the device’s lifespan.

With its combination of minimalist design, advanced AI integration, and durable construction, the Motorola Edge 70 marks a strong entry in the ultra-thin smartphone category. Whether it can outshine the iPhone Air remains to be seen, but it offers consumers an appealing balance of form and function.
