OpenAI plans to integrate Sora into ChatGPT

OpenAI plans to integrate its AI video tool, Sora, into the ChatGPT app alongside new features like GPT-4.5 and the Operator tool.

OpenAI is reportedly preparing to bring its AI-powered video generation tool, Sora, to the ChatGPT app. Initially launched in late 2024, Sora has since expanded to the European market as of February this year. Until now, the tool has only been available through a web client, exclusively for paying users.

Based on internal discussions, this suggests that OpenAI is working on integrating Sora into ChatGPT. However, the version within the ChatGPT app will have some limitations compared to the full capabilities available on the Sora web dashboard. There is currently no confirmed release date for this update.

OpenAI faces growing competition in the AI market

The move appears to be OpenAI’s response to increasing competition from rivals like xAI and DeepSeek. With more companies advancing their AI offerings, OpenAI is looking to strengthen its position by integrating Sora into its widely used ChatGPT platform, which now boasts over 400 million weekly active users.

Sora is one of OpenAI’s key products, and making it accessible through ChatGPT would likely boost user engagement and subscriptions. Currently, access to Sora is restricted to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers, and this integration could further drive interest in OpenAI’s paid plans.

More upgrades coming to ChatGPT

Sora is just one of several upgrades planned for ChatGPT in the coming months. Earlier this week, OpenAI introduced its most advanced AI model yet, GPT-4.5, which is being rolled out in a limited capacity. Additionally, the company has expanded its computationally intensive Deep Research tool to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This feature, similar to Google Gemini’s Deep Research tool, provides users with detailed, well-researched information on complex topics.

Another upcoming feature is Operator, OpenAI’s new flagship agentic tool. Operator is designed to autonomously complete various tasks by gathering information online, filling in necessary details, and executing user requests without additional input. Operator is only available to ChatGPT Pro users and has been gradually expanding to more markets. OpenAI has partnered with major companies such as Uber, Instacart, and DoorDash, allowing Operator to transform user queries into actionable tasks seamlessly.

As OpenAI continues to enhance ChatGPT with new features, integrating Sora could mark a significant step in making AI-powered video generation more accessible. While there is no official release date, the potential arrival of Sora in the ChatGPT app signals OpenAI’s commitment to staying at the forefront of AI innovation.
