PlayStation FlexStrike wireless fight stick delayed with no new release date
Sony delays the PlayStation FlexStrike wireless fight stick after production issues, with no new release date confirmed.
Sony has delayed the launch of its PlayStation FlexStrike wireless fight stick because of unexpected production issues. The company has not announced a revised release date but said it expects to share more information soon.

The FlexStrike was due to launch on 6 August 2026 alongside Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 tag-team fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by PlayStation. The delay means Sony’s first first-party wireless fight stick will no longer arrive as planned.
Sony cites unexpected production delays
Sony confirmed the change in an update published on the PlayStation Blog. The company attributed the delay to “unexpected production delays” but did not provide further details about the issues affecting manufacturing or distribution.
Customers who have already pre-ordered the FlexStrike are expected to receive more information from the retailers where they placed their orders. Those who ordered directly through PlayStation can check their order status through the company’s official website.
The FlexStrike is priced at US$199.99 and includes a sling carrying case designed to make the controller easier to transport. Pre-orders for the complete package opened on 12 June, less than two months before its planned release.
Sony said the additional development time would allow the company to complete further work on the controller before it reaches players.
“We’re working to ensure we deliver the best possible experience to our players with FlexStrike, so we’re taking extra time to put the finishing touches on the product,” Sony said in its update. “We apologise for this delay and look forward to bringing the FlexStrike experience to the community when it launches.”
The company has not provided an estimated launch window or indicated how long the delay may last. Its promise to provide further details soon suggests that an updated release plan could be announced once the production issues have been addressed.
FlexStrike targets competitive fighting game players
The FlexStrike has been developed for use with both the PlayStation 5 and PC. Sony designed the controller with competitive fighting game players in mind, particularly those who regularly travel to tournaments, gaming events or local matches.
Its layout includes large action buttons positioned on a slight incline when the controller is placed on a flat surface. The design is intended to provide a comfortable playing position while maintaining the familiar arcade-style controls preferred by many fighting game players.
The controller also includes a touchpad above the action buttons, bringing a feature commonly found on PlayStation controllers to the fight stick format. Players can customise the joystick using interchangeable restrictor gates, which change the shape of the area in which the stick moves.
The different gate options are designed to give players more control over the joystick’s feel and movement. This may be useful for players who prefer different input styles depending on the fighting game or character they are using.
FlexStrike supports wireless play through a PlayStation Link USB adapter. Sony has also included a wired USB-C connection for players who prefer a direct, low-latency connection during competitive matches.
Wireless support is one of the controller’s main features, as many traditional fight sticks rely primarily on wired connections. Sony has positioned FlexStrike as a portable option that combines wireless technology with features aimed at experienced and competitive players.
The controller was expected to launch alongside Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a team-based fighting game featuring Marvel characters. The title is being developed by Arc System Works, the studio known for the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series.
Launch plans remain uncertain after earlier reveal
Sony first introduced the controller under the working name Project Defiant in June 2025. At the time, the company described it as PlayStation’s first wireless fight stick and highlighted its compatibility with PS5 and PC.
Almost one year after the initial announcement, Sony revealed the FlexStrike name, confirmed its US$199.99 price and announced the planned 6 August 2026 release date. Pre-orders opened shortly afterwards, allowing customers to reserve the controller ahead of its launch.
The latest announcement removes that release date without providing a replacement. Sony has not confirmed whether the delay will affect all regions or whether the controller could become available in some markets before others.
The lack of a new launch window creates uncertainty for customers who planned to use the FlexStrike with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The controller had been promoted as a companion product for the game, although players will still be able to use other compatible controllers and fight sticks.
The delay may also disappoint members of the fighting game community who were interested in Sony’s first attempt at producing its own wireless arcade-style controller. Its portable design, customisable joystick and support for both wireless and wired connections had positioned it as a notable addition to the growing fight stick market.
Sony has not indicated whether the production delay will result in any changes to the controller’s design, features or pricing. For now, customers will need to wait for another update before a revised release date is confirmed.
