Poco F9 Ultra combines flagship processor with 185Hz display and large battery
Poco's F9 Ultra pairs a flagship Snapdragon chip with a 185Hz AMOLED display, 8,050mAh battery and 200MP camera.
Poco has introduced the F9 Ultra, a midrange smartphone that combines high-end hardware with features typically found on more expensive flagship and gaming phones. The latest model from Xiaomi’s sub-brand includes a 185Hz AMOLED display, a large battery and a flagship Snapdragon processor, while keeping its expected price below US$800.

The F9 Ultra is not planned for release in the US, but its specifications offer a glimpse into the direction of smartphone development in China. The phone places a strong emphasis on display performance, gaming capabilities and battery life, while also receiving several design and camera improvements over its predecessor.
High-refresh-rate display targets gamers
The F9 Ultra features a 6.9-inch AMOLED display with a maximum refresh rate of 185Hz. Such a high refresh rate remains relatively uncommon among mainstream smartphones and is more closely associated with premium gaming devices, including the ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro. The higher refresh rate is designed to make supported games and other fast-moving content appear smoother.
Poco has also equipped the phone with 2.1-channel Bose sound, adding a stronger audio focus. Bose branding remains visible around the camera area, although the cameras themselves are now flush with the rear panel. The revised design gives the F9 Ultra a cleaner appearance compared with last year’s Poco F8 Ultra.
The phone will be available in a Dark Cherry red finish, reflecting the growing focus on distinctive colours and finishes among smartphone makers in 2026. Poco is positioning the colour alongside the device’s high-end specifications as part of its broader design and performance offering.
Large battery and gaming-focused hardware
At the heart of the F9 Ultra is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, the same processor used in the previous model. Qualcomm has yet to announce its next-generation replacement, meaning Poco has retained the existing flagship platform for its latest phone. The processor is paired with Poco’s VisionBoost D8 chip, which is designed to use AI models to “dramatically enhance image details, deliver high-quality graphics and smoother dynamic scenes”.
The VisionBoost D8 technology is not new to the series, having also appeared in the F8 Ultra. Poco is instead placing greater emphasis on how its dedicated processing hardware can support demanding graphics and imaging tasks without relying entirely on the main chipset.
Battery capacity has received a much more substantial upgrade. The F9 Ultra carries an 8,050mAh battery, compared with the 6,500mAh cell found in its predecessor. The phone supports up to 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging when used with compatible chargers.
Poco has also included its LiquidCool cooling system to help manage heat during demanding workloads. The company claims the technology can lower chip temperatures by up to three degrees Celsius. This could be particularly useful when the phone is running demanding games through Poco’s WildBoost engine.
185fps gaming and upgraded cameras
Poco says the WildBoost engine currently supports 24 games at a native 185 frames per second, taking advantage of the phone’s unusually high refresh rate. The company also claims the technology can deliver up to 65 additional frames per second in supported scenarios. The figures are aimed primarily at gamers looking for smoother performance from mobile titles.
The high frame-rate capabilities could help distinguish the F9 Ultra from conventional midrange smartphones. However, the benefits will depend on individual games supporting the required frame rates and on the phone sustaining performance without significant thermal throttling.
Photography is another area where Poco has increased the specifications. The F9 Ultra features a 200-megapixel primary camera alongside a 5x optical-zoom periscope telephoto camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Together, they give the phone a range of focal lengths, from wide scenes to distant subjects, while the high-resolution main sensor is intended to provide extra detail.
Poco is expected to reveal the phone’s official global pricing at its launch event. A company spokesperson has told journalists that the F9 Ultra will cost less than US$800, placing it below many flagship smartphones despite its combination of premium hardware, high-refresh-rate display, large battery and advanced camera system.
