Sony adds faster FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS lens for Alpha cameras
Sony introduces the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS lens with faster autofocus, internal zoom and mid-June stock availability.
Sony Electronics has introduced the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS, a new G Master super-telephoto zoom lens for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras. The lens covers a 100-400 mm focal range with a constant F4.5 aperture, targeting wildlife, birding, sports and photojournalism creators who need reach, autofocus speed and stable handling in the field.

The new lens is also designed as a higher-performance option over the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS, with Sony citing autofocus speeds up to approximately 3x faster when mounted on the Alpha 9 III. It weighs approximately 1,840 g and uses an internal zoom structure to keep its balance more stable while shooting.
A faster lens for action work
Autofocus is one of the clearest upgrades. Sony has equipped the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS with four custom-optimised XD Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism and its latest AF algorithms. The company claims this setup delivers up to approximately 50% improved subject tracking, again based on use with the Alpha 9 III.
The lens is also compatible with Alpha 9 III continuous shooting at up to 120 fps with AF/AE tracking, although Sony notes that continuous shooting speed may vary depending on shooting conditions and lens compatibility. For users shooting fast-moving subjects, this gives the lens a stronger action-oriented profile than a conventional long zoom built mainly around reach.
G Master optics and field handling
Sony’s optical design includes newly developed ED XA, XA, two Super ED and three ED glass elements to control chromatic and spherical aberration. The lens is built to resolve fine detail across the 100-400 mm range, including when used wide open at F4.5.
Nano AR Coating II is used to reduce ghosting and flare, while an 11-blade circular aperture and spherical aberration control are designed to support the G Master series’ bokeh rendering. The constant F4.5 maximum aperture also reduces exposure shifts during zooming, which is useful when following subjects across changing compositions.
The lens supports optional 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, extending reach to 800 mm or 1,200 mm in APS-C mode with the 2x teleconverter attached. Built-in stabilisation supports Active Mode and coordinates internal stabilisation control on compatible camera bodies. It also supports breathing compensation on compatible bodies for video work.
Sony has added four focus hold buttons and a dedicated function ring for field operation. The lens has a dust- and moisture-resistant design, with Sony noting that it is not completely sealed against dust or water droplets.
Orders begin in May
The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS will be available for order from 15 May 2026, with collection and stock availability expected from mid-June. Sony is also running an early bird promotion from 15 May to 4 June 2026 for SEL100400MC purchases.
The launch offer includes a LensCoat RainCoat RS Large Realtree Max 5 and a limited-edition gift set with every purchase of the lens. Buyers can also access purchase-with-purchase offers for the SEL14TC 1.4x Teleconverter Lens or SEL20TC 2.0x Teleconverter Lens, each listed with a PWP SRP of S$599.
Sony is also offering a free Vertical Grip VG-C6 with every purchase of the SEL100400MC and ILCE-7RM6. Separately, Sony Store customers can trade in selected existing G Master lenses for up to S$1,900 rebate off the SEL100400MC, subject to assessment and terms.
