Technical errors caused outages across OpenAI services throughout the Asia-Pacific region on Friday. The disruption arrived only hours after widespread system failures knocked ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and xAI’s Grok offline worldwide.
The regional glitch disrupted several key tools during Asian business hours. According to a notice on the official OpenAI status page, users across the Asia-Pacific region ran into frequent errors when using ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, image tools, file uploads, Voice mode, and the Codex Cloud coding platform. Technical staff are still fixing the issue after error reports spiked.
Synchronised morning outages ground multiple providers
The regional outreach followed an unstable morning for corporate technology teams. During North American morning hours on 3 September, three major artificial intelligence companies suffered long, simultaneous outages that brought automated business tasks to a sudden halt worldwide.
Anthropic’s Claude went down first at 7.37 am Eastern Time, running into problems across a long list of models including Mythos, Fable, Sonnet, and Opus versions. That outage took four hours to fix, following a shorter 27-minute interruption the day before. Grok went offline roughly two hours later, cutting off access to its website, build tools, developer connections, Android phone app, and workplace add-ons until normal service returned at 1.08 pm.
OpenAI experienced its own global breakdown at 11.00 am Eastern Time, just as it prepared to launch its new GPT-6 Astra model. The failure prevented users from logging in, broke web search tools, disabled compliance features, and took down Deep Research, ChatGPT Atlas, voice mode, and coding tools for almost two hours before engineers restored service at 12.55 pm. Codex tools for websites, code editors, and command lines also stopped working, prompting advice for remote users to reconnect their mobile phones. Other apps built on Claude and Grok, including the coding assistant Cursor, failed at the same time, though Google’s Gemini system stayed online throughout the day without any reported problems.
