The developer also confirmed that the game remains on schedule for release on 19 November 2026. At launch, Grand Theft Auto VI will be available exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC version expected at a later date.
The upcoming title represents Rockstar’s first new mainline entry in the Grand Theft Auto series since Grand Theft Auto V launched in 2013. Since its announcement, interest in the game has continued to grow among fans and industry observers, making it one of the most closely watched entertainment releases of the decade.
Rockstar confirms launch plans and pre-order details
Rockstar revealed that players can secure their copy of Grand Theft Auto VI from 25 June through digital storefronts and participating retailers. The company reiterated that development remains on track, with no changes to the planned release date of 19 November.
The publisher has also outlined the different editions that will be available. Alongside the Standard Edition, Rockstar will offer an Ultimate Edition that includes additional digital content. Players who purchase the Ultimate Edition will receive a collection of exclusive vehicles, weapons and clothing items designed for use within the game.
In addition, Rockstar confirmed that all players who pre-order the game or purchase it before 20 November will receive the Vintage Vice City Pack. The bonus content includes a range of themed items inspired by the series’ iconic Vice City setting, reflecting the colourful atmosphere and neon culture of the fictional location.
The announcement is expected to drive significant demand in the months leading up to launch. Retailers and digital storefronts are preparing for what many expect to be one of the largest game releases in recent history.
Return to Vice City in Rockstar’s biggest world yet
Grand Theft Auto VI takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, a new setting that includes a modern interpretation of the famous Vice City. The game follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, two protagonists whose criminal activities draw them into a far-reaching conspiracy that spans multiple regions of the state.
Rockstar has described the title as the largest and most immersive open-world experience the company has ever created. Players will be able to explore a vast environment featuring cities, towns, rural areas and coastal locations, all connected within a single game world.
The dual-character story represents another evolution of Rockstar’s narrative approach. By focusing on two central characters, the developer aims to deliver a broader perspective on the events unfolding throughout Leonida while offering players a more dynamic storytelling experience.
Trailers and promotional material released so far have highlighted the scale of the game’s environments, advanced visual technology and increased level of world interaction. These features have contributed to growing anticipation among both long-time fans of the series and new players interested in exploring the next generation of open-world gaming.
Expectations remain high as the release approaches
Expectations for Grand Theft Auto VI are exceptionally high, given the long-running success of its predecessor. Grand Theft Auto V has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide since its 2013 release, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time.
The game has remained commercially successful for more than a decade thanks to continued player engagement and ongoing updates. This sustained popularity has increased expectations that the next instalment could achieve similar, if not greater, success.
Industry analysts have already predicted that Grand Theft Auto VI could generate billions of dollars in revenue during its first year on sale. Strong pre-order numbers, combined with global interest in the franchise, are expected to make the launch one of the most significant events in the video game industry.
Although Rockstar has not yet announced a release date for the PC version, many observers expect it to follow after the console launch, mirroring the release strategy used for previous titles in the series. Until then, attention will remain focused on the upcoming November debut as players prepare to return to Vice City and explore Rockstar’s most ambitious game world to date.
