Meta has introduced the Meta Ray-Ban Display, the company’s first pair of smart glasses with a built-in display. The launch marks a step beyond its existing Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) range and the upcoming Oakley Meta Vanguard. The new device is designed to expand the use of smart eyewear by integrating augmented-reality features into a stylish frame.
Priced at US$799, the glasses feature a display embedded in the right lens, offering a range of functions that surpass the capabilities of earlier models. While the Ray-Ban Meta glasses allow users to take photos and videos, make calls, send texts, and identify objects, the new version brings enhanced experiences through its visual interface.
Features and functionality of the Meta Ray-Ban Display
The integrated display can show text messages, camera viewfinder previews, and turn-by-turn navigation. It also offers live captions and real-time translations, as well as the ability to display what a user is listening to on Spotify. These features build on the hands-free appeal of Meta’s earlier designs while introducing a more immersive experience.
Control remains versatile with both voice commands and the new Meta Neural Band. This wrist-based accessory allows users to operate the glasses through simple hand gestures, providing a quieter alternative to spoken instructions. The combination of voice and gesture-based controls reflects Meta’s broader ambition to make wearable technology more seamless and user-friendly.
Meta has described demand for demonstrations of the Meta Ray-Ban Display as “strong,” with appointments already fully booked through mid-October. The company has not confirmed how long its temporary stores will remain open.
Pop-up stores are opening across the United States
To raise awareness of the device, Meta is opening a series of pop-up stores called Meta Lab. These locations will give visitors the chance to try out the glasses and experience their features first-hand.
The first store will open in Las Vegas on 16 October, followed by another in Los Angeles on 24 October. A third will launch in New York City on 13 November. In addition to these temporary sites, Meta already operates a permanent Meta Lab in Burlingame, California, near its Silicon Valley headquarters.
For those unable to attend a Meta Lab, the glasses will also be available to try at select Ray-Ban, Verizon, Best Buy, and LensCrafters stores. Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses officially went on sale in the United States on 30 September, with international availability expected from early 2026.
