Samsung could launch two Galaxy Z Fold8 models in 2026

Samsung may release two Galaxy Z Fold8 models in 2026, including one with a square-like screen, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8.

Samsung may be preparing to expand its foldable phone lineup with the release of two Galaxy Z Fold8 models in 2026, according to reports from South Korea.

Two versions of Galaxy Z Fold8 are in development

Korean publication ETNews has reported that Samsung intends to launch two versions of the Galaxy Z Fold8. The standard model is expected to keep the familiar 10:9 aspect ratio for its foldable display, while a second version could feature a more square-shaped design with an 18:18 aspect ratio.

This potential move would not be the first time a foldable smartphone has embraced a near-square form. Oppo’s Find N, launched in 2021, and its successor, the Find N2, in 2022, both adopted an 8.4:9 ratio. Similarly, Google’s debut Pixel Fold included a 7.6-inch main display with a 6:5 ratio, offering users a different take on foldable screen dimensions.

Finalising details before official launch

According to the report, the specifications of the second Galaxy Z Fold8 model are expected to be confirmed by the end of September or early October. If development stays on schedule, both versions of the Fold8 are anticipated to launch in the second half of 2026. They are also likely to be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8, the company’s next-generation clamshell foldable.

Samsung has not officially commented on these rumours. However, the timing of the reported product development aligns with the company’s typical release cycle for new foldable devices.

Preparing for competition in the foldable market

Industry observers suggest that expanding the Galaxy Z Fold8 series may be part of Samsung’s broader strategy to defend its dominance in the foldable smartphone market. Rivals such as Oppo and Google have already experimented with square-like foldable designs, and Apple is widely expected to enter the foldable category in the near future.

If the rumours are accurate, Samsung’s decision to offer two different Fold8 models could give consumers more choice in terms of design and usability, while also strengthening its position against upcoming competition.

As the foldable market continues to grow, manufacturers are exploring different display formats to balance portability with usability. Samsung’s reported plans indicate that it is willing to experiment further with design to appeal to a wider range of users.
