Samsung launches more customisable Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses at a higher price
Meta unveils new Ray-Ban smart glasses with improved customisation, AI features, and a higher starting price of US$499.
Meta has unveiled the latest version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, introducing new frame styles and improved customisation options, particularly for users who require prescription lenses. Developed in partnership with eyewear manufacturer EssilorLuxottica, the updated models expand the existing second-generation lineup while offering design refinements and broader lens compatibility.

The new additions, named Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics, start at US$499 per pair, marking a noticeable increase from the US$379 entry price of the current Wayfarer Gen 2 model. Despite being part of the same generation, the latest release reflects Meta’s continued push to enhance usability and appeal to a wider audience.
New designs focus on comfort and flexibility
The Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics frames offer a more tailored fit, with slimmer designs and adjustable features that enhance comfort. Both styles include swappable nose pads and adjustable temple tips, allowing users to fine-tune the fit to their preferences.
EssilorLuxottica stated that the updated frames are designed to accommodate a broader range of prescription lenses. This includes support for progressive lenses and transition lenses, which automatically adapt to changing light conditions. The company emphasised that this expanded compatibility is intended to make the smart glasses more practical for everyday use.
In terms of aesthetics, the Blayzer frames feature a square design reminiscent of the classic Wayfarer style. In contrast, the Scriber frames offer a softer, more rounded look similar to the Headliner range. Both options are available in multiple colours, including translucent finishes, giving users more choice in personalising their appearance.
Pre-orders for the new models are already open via Meta’s online store, with general availability scheduled for 14 April. The glasses will also be distributed through a wider network of physical retail outlets, including major eyewear chains under EssilorLuxottica’s portfolio.
Higher price reflects added features and ecosystem growth
The increased starting price of US$499 positions the new models as a more premium offering within Meta’s smart glasses range. The cost does not include prescription lenses, which can add US$200-US$300 or more, depending on the specific configuration chosen by the user.
