Samsung’s smart glasses could arrive before the end of 2025

Samsung is reportedly developing smart glasses, codenamed Haean, with AR and gesture controls, set to launch by late 2025.

Samsung is reportedly developing a pair of smart glasses alongside its Android XR (extended reality) headset, Project Moohan. While much attention has been paid to the upcoming XR headset, fresh reports suggest that Samsung is also working on augmented reality (AR) smart glasses that could launch before the end of the year.

Samsung’s smart glasses in development

According to a South Korean outlet, ET News, Samsung’s AR glasses are being developed under the codename Haean. The company is in the final stages of refining the device’s features and specifications. One key focus for Samsung is ensuring the glasses fit a wide range of face shapes and structures, making them accessible to a broader audience.

Another significant feature expected in the new smart glasses is gesture support. This means users will be able to control the device using hand movements rather than relying on buttons. This design choice is likely aimed at enhancing ease of use and creating a sleek, minimalist appearance.

While details on specifications remain limited, reports suggest that Samsung may unveil the smart glasses alongside its Android XR headset. Although Samsung has previously shared more information about its XR headset, the smart glasses could be introduced at the same event, giving the company a strong foothold in the expanding AR market.

Features, pricing, and possible launch

Smart glasses have had a turbulent history, with earlier attempts, such as Google Glass, failing to gain mainstream popularity. However, recent advancements have renewed interest in the technology. For example, the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses have demonstrated a more refined approach to the concept, showing that smart eyewear can be stylish and functional.

Samsung appears eager to enter this growing market, and rumours about its smart glasses have been circulating for several years. The company filed a trademark for “Samsung Glasses” in 2023, indicating a long-term commitment to AR wearables.

The upcoming smart glasses are expected to feature a Qualcomm-powered chip, providing strong performance for AR applications. Additionally, they may include an integrated camera, a feature commonly found in other smart glasses.

One of the most exciting possibilities is for Samsung to aim for an affordable price point. This strategy would make the smart glasses more accessible to a wider audience, potentially helping them gain traction where previous devices have struggled.

There were earlier speculations that Samsung might unveil its smart glasses alongside the Galaxy S25 at the Unpacked event in January. However, since that did not happen, industry insiders believe the device will be revealed within nine months.

If these reports are accurate, Samsung could soon introduce a competitor to existing smart glasses, adding another exciting product to its lineup of innovative technology. With a focus on comfort, usability, and affordability, Samsung’s entry into the smart eyewear market could be a game-changer.
