Street Fighter 6 welcomes Alex with a wrestling-inspired update
Street Fighter 6 adds Alex, featuring motion-capture by wrestler Kenny Omega, blending classic gameplay with wrestling-inspired moves.
Capcom has announced the return of Alex to the Street Fighter series as part of the next Street Fighter 6 update, marking a notable moment for long-time fans of the franchise. The character is set to arrive on 17 March and will become the third fighter added during the game’s third year of post-launch content. Alex first appeared in 1997’s Street Fighter III: New Generation and has since been remembered for his powerful throws and athletic fighting style.
Incredibly happy to announce that I've done some big mocap work as Alex in Street Fighter 6. Can't wait for you all to see more, he's my favorite character in Street Fighter 👀 pic.twitter.com/47TarcQa81

In Street Fighter 6, Alex’s return is designed to feel both nostalgic and refreshed for modern audiences. Capcom has positioned him as a high-impact brawler whose movement and attacks emphasise strength, speed and verticality. His inclusion continues the publisher’s strategy of blending classic characters with new mechanics introduced in the latest instalment.
What has drawn particular attention, however, is the real-world inspiration behind Alex’s updated animations. Capcom confirmed that the character’s movements are performed by professional wrestler Kenny Omega, a former AEW World Champion widely known by fans as the “best bout machine”. The collaboration adds an extra layer of authenticity to Alex’s physicality and presentation.
Kenny Omega’s involvement and motion capture work
Capcom revealed Omega’s involvement through a trailer showcasing Alex’s arrival in Street Fighter 6. The footage highlights a range of wrestling-inspired techniques closely associated with Omega’s in-ring style. These include the Snap Dragon Suplex, rapid aerial strikes and a dramatic finishing move sequence that echoes Omega’s well-known repertoire.
This collaboration goes beyond visual inspiration. Omega personally performed the motion capture for Alex, translating his wrestling movements directly into the game. He later shared images from the recording sessions on social media, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at the process. The decision to involve Omega directly reflects Capcom’s effort to create more realistic and expressive character animations.
Omega’s participation may surprise some wrestling fans, as he has previously shown affection for other Street Fighter characters. He once appeared at an AEW event dressed as Akuma and later received an action figure based on that appearance. Despite this history, Capcom selected Omega as the physical model for Alex due to the similarities between the wrestler’s explosive offence and the character’s established fighting identity.
Updated moves, wider wrestling links and release details
While Alex’s fighting style clearly draws from Omega’s signature moves, Capcom has adjusted several names to fit the Street Fighter universe. Omega’s finishing move, the One-Winged Angel, has been renamed the Omega Wing Buster in the game. The V-Trigger-inspired sequence is now known as the Aerial Knee Smash. These changes preserve the spirit of the techniques while aligning them with the franchise’s naming conventions.
Alex’s full moveset includes a powerbomb, a spear and a series of fast-paced strikes designed to maintain pressure on opponents. Together, these abilities reinforce his role as a close-range powerhouse within the Street Fighter 6 roster. Capcom has indicated that Alex is designed to appeal to both competitive players and fans drawn to his visual flair and wrestling influence.
The collaboration also highlights Street Fighter’s growing connections with professional wrestling beyond the game itself. An upcoming live-action film adaptation will feature WWE stars Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns as Colonel Guile and Akuma, respectively. In addition, Mattel continues to sell a line of action figures combining WWE wrestlers with Street Fighter characters, further blending the two worlds.
Alex is scheduled to join Street Fighter 6 on 15 March across all available platforms, alongside previously released Year 3 characters C. Viper and Sagat. Capcom has also confirmed that Ingrid will be the fourth character added during the current content cycle, with her release planned for late spring.
