Blue Prince launches on Switch 2 with mouse control support
Blue Prince launches on Switch 2 with mouse controls, bringing its acclaimed roguelike puzzle gameplay to Nintendo’s latest console.
Blue Prince has launched on Nintendo’s Switch 2, bringing its distinctive roguelike puzzle experience to the company’s latest console. The announcement was made during the latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase, confirming that the critically acclaimed title is available from 4 March via the Nintendo eShop.
The Switch 2 edition introduces mouse control functionality, taking advantage of the Joy-Con’s lesser-used pointer features. This addition is designed to offer players an alternative way to interact with the game’s intricate environments and interface, potentially improving precision during exploration and puzzle-solving.
Originally released to strong praise earlier in 2025, Blue Prince quickly developed a reputation for its inventive design and absorbing atmosphere. Its arrival on Switch 2 is likely to broaden its audience further, particularly among players seeking thoughtful, system-driven gameplay experiences on console.
A mansion that rebuilds itself with every run
At its core, Blue Prince is a puzzle-driven roguelike centred on the exploration of a vast and mysterious mansion. However, unlike traditional adventure games, players do not simply navigate pre-designed rooms. Instead, they construct the mansion themselves as they progress, placing rooms one by one using magical blueprints discovered throughout each run.
This unusual mechanic lies at the heart of the game’s appeal. Each blueprint represents a different type of room, complete with its own challenges, secrets or obstacles. Players must carefully decide where to place these rooms, gradually shaping the mansion’s layout as they delve deeper into its secrets.
The objective is to explore as much of the mansion as possible and uncover the many mysteries hidden within its walls. Yet progress is limited by both the availability of blueprints and the increasing number of obstacles encountered along the way. Eventually, most players will find themselves trapped in a dead end of their own design.
When this happens, the run ends. The protagonist falls asleep, and the mansion resets entirely. All constructed rooms are destroyed, forcing players to start over from scratch. However, knowledge gained during previous attempts carries forward. Over time, players learn which room placements are more effective and how to avoid costly mistakes, creating a compelling loop of experimentation and gradual mastery.
Critical acclaim and console exclusivity
Blue Prince has been widely praised for its elegant systems and distinctive mood. Its art direction, rather than technical spectacle, is frequently highlighted as the key to its visual impact. The mansion’s shifting corridors and carefully crafted interiors create a strong sense of atmosphere, lending weight to each decision players make.
The game was included in Engadget’s list of favourite titles of 2025, where it was described as “a masterpiece”. Such acclaim has helped establish it as one of the standout independent releases of the year, particularly within the increasingly crowded roguelike genre.
Despite its stylised presentation, the title is not particularly demanding technically. Some observers have questioned why the game launched exclusively on Switch 2 rather than on the original Switch, given its relatively modest graphical requirements. Nintendo has not publicly addressed this decision.
Nevertheless, the Switch 2 version may benefit from improved performance and the newly introduced mouse control support. The ability to use Joy-Con pointer functionality could provide a more tactile and precise way to place rooms and interact with in-game elements, aligning well with the title’s blueprint-driven mechanics.
At launch, Blue Prince is priced at US$30. To mark its debut on Switch 2, it is available at a discounted price of US$20 for a limited period. The promotion offers a lower entry point for players curious about its distinctive blend of strategy, puzzle-solving and roguelike progression.
With its inventive structure and strong critical backing, Blue Prince’s arrival on Switch 2 adds another notable title to the console’s growing digital catalogue. For players drawn to atmospheric design and systems that reward careful thought, it represents a significant new addition to the platform.
