ROG Gjallar combines Dolby Atmos audio, voice chat and device control
The ROG Gjallar combines Dolby Atmos audio, voice chat, HDMI 2.1 and multi-device control in a compact gaming soundbar system.
ASUS Republic of Gamers has introduced the ROG Gjallar, a compact gaming soundbar designed to bring speaker audio, voice communication and source switching into one desktop system.
The 2.1.2-channel setup combines a soundbar, a wireless subwoofer and a separate control hub. It can connect to PCs, consoles, televisions and mobile devices through HDMI 2.1, USB-C, optical, AUX and Bluetooth 5.3.
Soundbar and control hub work as one system
The 607mm-wide soundbar contains four 50mm full-range drivers, two 27mm tweeters and upward-firing channels for Dolby Atmos height effects. A separate 6.5-inch subwoofer handles lower frequencies, using a 5GHz wireless connection to avoid an audio cable between the two units.
ROG rates the subwoofer at 65 watts and has given it a slim 125mm-wide design, allowing it to sit beside a desk or television cabinet without taking up as much floor space as a wider enclosure.
Audio controls sit on a separate desktop hub rather than on the soundbar itself. Its LCD screen provides access to volume, playback, input selection, equaliser profiles and ASUS Aura RGB lighting, keeping frequently used settings within reach.
The same hub contains the microphones used for voice chat. Acoustic Echo Cancellation is intended to stop game audio and teammates’ voices playing through the speakers from being captured again by the microphones.
An AI beamforming system directs voice capture towards the user while reducing background sounds such as computer fans and system hum. This arrangement allows the Gjallar to handle speaker audio and voice communication without requiring a separate desktop microphone.
Settings can also be adjusted through Gear Link, available through a web-based PC tool and mobile app. Users can change the equaliser, microphone behaviour and lighting without relying solely on the physical controls.
Broad connectivity supports mixed gaming setups
The Gjallar supports Windows PCs, Macs, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, televisions and mobile devices. Its connection options allow several types of hardware to use the same speaker system.
HDMI 2.1 supports video pass-through at up to 4K resolution and 120Hz, allowing a compatible console or PC to send video through the soundbar to a display. HDMI eARC can also receive high-resolution audio from a compatible television.
USB-C, optical and AUX inputs cover other wired sources, while Bluetooth 5.3 provides wireless playback from mobile devices. The soundbar can also connect to a dedicated digital-to-analogue converter.
Two USB Type-A ports on the right side of the soundbar extend its role as a desktop connection point. They can be used for wireless receivers, external storage and other peripherals, reducing the number of accessories that need to connect directly to a computer or console.
The ROG Gjallar is scheduled to reach stores across Singapore in mid-Q3 2026.
